Deer feed blend?

Any guys do their own? Keep in mind I have not done any of the feed calculations but took some knowledge from friends and added it all up.

In the past I used: 60% all stock (12-14%), 30% whole corn, 10% oats.
On some advice, changed this year to: 60% all stock (12% on sale), 30% whole corn, 5% black sunflower, 5% oats.

Any thoughts or advice?

What do you guys do for supplemental protein after season, if anything?
- what mix requirements do you look for?
- use feeders or put on ground?
- same location as mineral station?
- how long do you put it out?
- self-mix or pre-mix?
- which is more important/helpful—supplementing mineral or protein or other?

I’ve been putting out alfalfa bales, cutting trees and some mineral for after season winter feed. Haven’t done any protein supplements yet. Love to hear what others find works.

You fellas should try and get a semi load of sugarbeets tailings.
They are free, just gotta pay for trucking.

Roasted soybeans and great protein but lil more expensive. Raw soybeans work if you can get some from a farmer.

Ahh!!! Ok- yep - that’s a pretty good & affordable additive for sure. I did mix in roasted soybeans - I got a pallet ….. when beans were $9.50… I think I paid $12-14???? But that’s roasted & bagged so not bad at all.
Where do you guys get your roasted soybeans?

I just do an old self mix recipe I was told about years ago. (60% all stock (12-14%), 30% whole corn, 10% oats) I do add in a mixed rumen mineral and I add an apple attractant to get it started.
Fed from a Boss Buck gravity feeder.
Certainly not an expert just doing research and fixing mistakes.
Put it out when I am done bowhunting, usually the mon-thur before gun season.
I mix in individual 5 gal buckets to get a good mix and just sprinkle little mineral in.

I try to keep it in the open so the predators don't hunt over the feeders. I am paranoid about predators so we are hard on them around home. Skunks, cats, and yotes don't live long around our place. Working on learning the ins and outs of snares.
