I assume this is for less stress after 3+ months of being hunted? If we’re looking to reduce stress why don’t we start bow season later? How about starting bow Oct 15th to start the stress later.

I am an avid bowhunter just like the majority on here but, I also gun hunt late muzzle. Why is it that people are always going after the gun season? It gets exhausting listening to bow guys always trying to mess with everyone else but themselves.
 
How many people hunting the gun seasons are actually still using the 870 pump or a knight muzzleloader? I would imagine the majority has upgraded and went away from the equipment used 20 years ago. Their ability to have better control on shot placement should have provided them with an edge over wildlife with the use of cameras as well should be considered in this consideration. Most have taken advantage of harvest upgrades, and I don't blame them.
I understand also with the short amount of time current guns seasons have now they do have weather, holidays and lack of ground to hunt if you push groups together as well.

Ha you just called me out. Still use my bird barrel 870 and my Knight

The key time period is (January). Deer are stressed, & the bucks are starting to shed . Too many shed bucks killed .

If there’s a compromise, have the season end Jan 2 or New Years Day ?

It’s worse in cold states, like Minnesota. It’s one smart rule we have in Mn! The season ends Dec 31.

I know NO ONE will enjoy me saying this, but- Season End Dec 31, SHED SEASON starts Feb 15th... I am a stones throw from MN and I would say we are near 80% shed as of today from whats left around here...

I am still a Knight muzzy guy, still using actual blackpowder, not pellets. :) But, I think it was 2022, or earlier, that I last busted it out of the safe.

Also, I have loaned my trusty, a little bit rusty, 870 out several times over the years. I do have a rifled barrel for it nowadays too, but that ol' timer has notched many a deer over the years. :) I cannot recall though when I last used it personally though.

Ha. Still use my 11/87 I bought almost 30 years ago with my first college financial aid check. Lol

Also Just finished cleaning my knight ml I bought in 03ish and put her back in the safe
 
Sure seems like late muzzleloader gets beat on constantly, while 2 gun seasons kill 40,000 deer to late muzzleloaders 6-7,000. Bow season also kills around 20,000 (landowner tags excluded in these figures). I’d really love to see the exact break down of shed bucks shot late muzzleloader vs other seasons. I’m sure Jace could get that figure for us.

Seems to me that late muzzleloader has fewer participants therefore it’s the first thing on the chopping block.
 
Ohio goes till February 1st. Ohio is still producing mature bucks in spite of crossbows and corn piles somehow. I like hunting in the late season and never shoot something I wouldn't have shot on October 1st. how many shed bucks get shot with archery by accident?
 
Guilty! I hunt with the 870 I bought when I was 12. I did get a cantilever barrel for it 8 years ago. That gun/barrel combo loves Hornady slugs.

put a 100 grown men in a room and I bet less than 50% of them are proficient with a bow outside 30 yds.

Some of you guys would argue the sky is purple if that meant you getting your way. The bar of today’s deer hunter has been raised by far more than those who continue to do the same thing year after year. Either get on the train or go take up golf…………..

Sky is only blue because that is the color you were taught LOL. If you were taught it was purple then it would be purple or red or name your flavor.
