Poll question #15: AR pistols

Should semi auto AR style pistols be banned for late season?

  • Yes, ban semi auto AR style pistols

  • No, keep things the way they are

What is disliked? Is it because they are semi auto? Shoulderable? There are bolt action uppers that fit AR lowers available now. Would that change anyone’s mind? Would that change be for or against.

My vote would be to follow the intent of the season, “Primitive Weapons Only”. I have nothing against an AR pistol though. A decent muzzleloader is just as effective. Maybe go single shot weapons only.

Im a gun advocate. I enjoy the freedom to own these guns! I own multiple of these gun. I enjoy shooting these guns. However they are a "loop hole" for hunting with a pistol.

Technically yes they are pistols. Hower when you shoulder like a rife, shoot it like a rifle, mount a 10 power scope on it like a rifle....
It's a rifle.

They have no place in a muzzleloader season.

Id say they do not add much of a shot distance advantage. Primarily a ease of use and a multiple shot advantage.

Once again no place in the ML season!

You will have to ban all pistols during late muzzleloader. Judge already ruled that the ATF determines what is considered a pistol. DNR and Iowa legislators can’t. You could allow muzzleloading pistols I would imagine. But will have to blanket ban all regular pistols. Which I personally would be in favor of.

If we just made smokeless powder illegal for muzzleloader season wouldn’t that eliminate all the ar pistol issues?
Or I would think eliminating scopes would level the playing field some .

Hunting with a regular handgun can be a lot of fun and very challenging. Shots are typically less than 75 yards and oftentimes are well within bow range. I’m not sure I’d ban all regular handguns because of a few folks exploiting a loophole with AR style weapons.

Banning semi or repeating style pistols would be a fair compromise I guess. I still stand by what I said about TC contenders in necked calibers. Those are 200++ yard guns with a bipod and steady finger.

Or make it revolver only. That would serve the intent.
Or just make late muzzleloader season like it was originally. Black powder muzzleloaders and bow. Could continue to allow crossbows or not, I am fine with or without crossbows. Never understood the logic of allowing handguns during late muzzleloader. They were already allowed during gun 1&2 so why allow them during a primitive weapon season.

That does not do anything for the pistol guys. To my knowledge pistols have always been part of the late muzzy season.

I don’t understand the logic of banning a weapon that requires you to be close to your quarry unlike a modern muzzleloader where shots up to 200 yards are not at all challenging. Hunting with a handgun puts the odds back in the favor of the animal. I thought that was the goal…

That is true if you have a handheld pistol.

The AR15 platform pistol is pretty much the same as a short barrel rifle ar15. Kind of a technicality .

You can drop a 10 round mag in and have about 250yd range or further if you are handy with a gun.

This is the pistol in question.

I dont think banning anything is a good move. Just tweak the regs to only include....

The results of this poll are shameful. The poll itself should not be here. To single out an AR type gun be it a pistol or rifle is anti gun anti 2nd amendment. Why AR vs all include semi-auto or maybe multiple rounds? The AR piece does not belong here. As stated by others, that piece is not a debatable (like it, or not).

Is not allowing 50 cal machine guns to hunt with anti gun? Anti 2A?

This isnt a gun issue.

Calling any poll shameful is anti American. Pretty clear how people here feel about this one.

Anti second amendment would be saying you have no right to OWN an AR pistol. This poll is whether or not that AR pistol should be allowed during a season intended for muzzleloaders.

Also that same AR pistol could be used during either of the 2 gun seasons.
