Plant the egyptian wheat the first year to see if/how it affects deer movement in the plot that way you will know if it is working as inteneded. its also kinda cool watching deer stand on their hind legs for several seconds at a time trying to get the seed heads off the stalk. On a side note...
Watch the des moines craigslist. There is a guy from pella that refurbishes and sells them regularly on there. A buddy bought one and is happy with it but, seems they are ALL pricey when you find them.
I have been a loyal danner fan for many years due to how well they have held up to anything I threw at them. On the downside the last pair I bought have held up miserably, eyelets pulling out and stitching coming loose after a short time and these are my "uniform boots" that are well taken care...
I used a "FB" which is similar except mine had 3 boxes- 1 being for fertilizer. It worked OK but, for my irregular shaped plots and trees, etc in some of them I found that broadcasting worked better and the spreader goes on a shelf instead of taking up valuable space in the barn.
I recently finished my conversion of a 16ft weed wiper down to a more manageable 8ft version which is shown attached to the quick release bracket on my compact tractor. I finished the 2nd part exactly as the first except for the bracket. The wiper is approx.8ft wide overall with an actual wiping...
I have used them and as the name (forage) implies the ones I planted were designed more for the animals eating the leaves during growth. I also had very few actual pods. I wont be going back to them as regular RR soybeans when planted at a high rate per acre provide not only the leaf forage...
I have had good luck with the soil test kits from the whitetail institute. They will send your results back by mail or email if you want them quicker.I ran into the same problems at the coop not being very helpful. don't wast your money on the soil probes, the ones i tried were worthless.
Even though I had originally browsed through doubletrees egyptian wheat post I didnt actually study it. I took DAVERs advise and went back through it finding the answer to all my questions. I then went out on alimb and called Lacrosse forage &turf in Ankeny 515-965-4425 and found that they...
planting rate for screen
What rate are you guys planting at? I see cooper seed reccomends 4-6 lbs/acre yet hancock reccomends 50lbs/acre!!!! And I thought the prices for this stuff varied amongst the sellers. I plan on using it as a screen while accessing remote tree stands where I have no...
I cannot seem to find egyptian wheat from anywhere local and although the online price is reasonable, the shipping cost is not. Anybody got a lead on a local source to avoid shipping costs? I am located in south central Iowa.
I am looking to sell my John Deere 13X7 grain drill which Has been all gone through and is field ready. This one has the highly desirable double disc openers, main seed box, small seed box and fertilizer box. I even have some removeable containers that go in the main seed box which in effect would...
