    Future of CRP

One of the main reasons NRCS has no teeth in compliance, is if called out on soil loss, the overwhelming majority of appeals are won by the land owner. Besides the fact that most of the soils in Iowa can loose 10 tons per acre per year and still be in compliance.

"Court Intervention: The only way to potentially extinguish a conservation easement is through a court of law, which is a difficult and unlikely process." I have seen many lawyers take a stab at them an have yet to see anyone succeed.

    Future of CRP

Agriculture in Iowa is long over due for reform. There are too many active and potential factors that put current agricultural stability at risk. I think, and honestly hope that some of these changes will force the hand of diversification of farming operations. Using different crop numbers and...

I sought more information, but I was told that is all they could give me at this time. I imagine if the program was written out, they would let existing contracts sunset, but that is only speculation.

    Future of CRP

Folks, I don't know how to word this without things spiraling out of hand. What has hunting become???

Yeah, it may be a big root measuring contest, but it's like driving a semi. You have the wheel, don't let the cars around you drive your truck for you. I harvest the deer that gets me excited, and gives me a chip shot.

How to handle Ragweed in CRP mix

If you are only in the second year of establishment, I would clip it again at least once this year, especially if you have forbs in the mix. I would stay away from herbicide in the establishment period. As for disturbance during the nesting season, that does not apply during establishment, you...

Converting 160ac pasture to wildlife mecca

This is where a plant community assessment would help to determine what is present, but held back. One year without grazing will tell a lot.
