    Elk in Iowa

Half dozen, that is eerie. I'd prefer not to hunt with cougars around. I think I heard of 1 up here and that was never even confirmed so tough saying. Back to the bobcats though, it makes me worry about the turkey and pheasant population. The turkey population IMO is the best it has ever been...

    Elk in Iowa

Yes NE Iowa has had some and so has SE Minnesota. Definitely very rare to see though. Which is weird because you only have to drive about an hour into WI to get into a lot more of them, they just must not move much. One thing I have noticed this year though. NE Iowa and SE Minnesota has way...

    2023 Farm Photos

Boy if those are antiques I'd hate to know what my old man's equipment is called... Good work and nice phezy's!

    High grading bucks

I agree with this 100%. I always congratulate every hunter who shoots a deer, and it is genuine too. Regardless of size or age. I personally choose to be selective but that is 100% my choice, I don't push it on to others. At the end of the day, these are four legged animals. Created by the man...

    High grading bucks

Definitely. However if I have pictures of certain deer that I know for certain are 3 (based off pictures) I will pass them every time. I passed a 160" 3 year old two years ago, the following year he thankfully lived and was over boone. Unfortunately he took off at the end of sept/early oct and I...

    How early

Usually there 20 minutes prior to shooting light, set up and ready for about 10 minutes.

    Winter Rye

Perfect! sounds like I will find some sheds if nothing else.

    Winter Rye

Admittedly I am more of a timber hunter. Being tucked in the timber on an early November morning watching multiple bucks stroll by, nothing beats it. However, this year I planted a small 1/2 acre food plot of winter rye. It is mostly surrounded by woods and sits about 50 yards from a large ag...

Honest concern with Youth Hunter bucks shot…

I agree with the above points. I do want to point out that for every 1 giant you see with a kid behind it, there is likely 100 others who shot the smaller ones but just did not display the photo/send it in. It's the nature of the news outlet you are seeing. I do think maybe it is trending upward...

    Landowner tag question

If you already filled your regular bow tag yes you would use your late muz tag. If you didn’t fill your regular bow tag yet, I would just use that. Then you could technically still fill your late muz tag. I could be wrong though so definitely check the regs first.

    Landowner tag question

You get: - 1 bow any sex tag - 1 gun any sex tag (have to pick between early muz, 1st shotgun, 2nd shotgun, late muz) - 3 landowner doe tag, 1 landowner any sex tag (which you have to pick a season and it sounds like you pick archery) So to answer your question, yes you can. Edit: you would...

    Growth this year

Very interesting. So your belief is that the drought actually helps with antler growth? I've always heard that years it is unusually wet are the best growing years. It is certainly interesting to hear different theories and opinions. I am also still getting cameras up and figuring out who's who...

    Growth this year

I know last year a lot of guys said they thought antler growth was down. Most of them pointed to the late green up in the spring as the cause. I thought it was hocus pocus as I had multiple shooters and deer that took big jumps. Last year was phenomenal for me. However, what are you guys seeing...

Calling, Scent and Everything in Between!

If I see a buck I want out of range. I try to turn him around with a grunt. If he doesn't hear me I grunt louder. If he still doesn't hear I snort wheeze. Usually the snort wheeze turns him around. I try not to blind rattle unless I have an absolute bulletproof set up (cliff behind me), they...
