Dogwood cuttings

I’m going to try some Red Osier dogwood cuttings in Iowa … anyone had success ?

I’ve only done it a few times, any tips would be appreciated.

I've done it several times. Nothing fancy. Just took cuttings and poked them in the ground. They do best in moister soils.

Do you plant each cut stem or cut each stem into more cuttings (ie make three cuttings out of each stem in the bucket)?

I’m just going to make 15-18 plantable sticks out of what I have .

I’ve got so much dogwood at my farm , it’s endless. This is going to be an experiment on Napier soils in Iowa ? See how it goes ?

There are rooting hormones that you can dip the cut end in before stabbing it into the ground. Might be an unnecessary expense.

I'm pretty sure dogwood and Willow have their own natural rooting hormone as long as you rough up one side and plant them nodes up into the ground up a few nodes deep you should be fine
The biggest problem I've experienced with them is that the deer will eat them before they get a chance to survive planting them in areas with fallen trees to protect them or caging them off is the best option do your love dogwood.
