Bur Oaks dropping heavy in Minnesota !

That’s hard to say, but the bark and acorns look different than my Bur Oaks?

I actually think pheasants will nip at the plum too, & chokecherry . I know they like to lounge around in the plum thickets !

Yes they feed on them ! They wipe em out… I planted hundreds of plum as part of a CRP tree planting in Minnesota in the 2002-2007 range. They started to produce in 5-6 yrs. They also sucker and create new thickets ! Great wildlife tree !

I think if you had 640 acres surrounded by agriculture & poor cover … you could make it work . I know in Minnesota, I could do it . Just too expensive & I’m 56 now … it would take a long time to set up. I’m too old. Same could happen in Iowa, ND, SD, etc… just have to be the ideal location and...

Last time I attended the Iowa Deer Classic I noticed Dallas County had a lot of very nice bucks on display ! Harrison had a couple behemoth bucks too !

Nice amount of fruit on the apple tree (unfortunately the tag blew off) so I’m not sure which crabapple this is? Dolgo, Whitney, Chestnut crab ? Any idea from you apple experts ?

Definitely! I’ve seen that before. A small clump of trees/willows/low spot in the middle of a CRP field is a magnet !

That’s an interesting take . I’ve found that some deer do bed in CRP, but not as much as the season gets colder. The bucks sure like to rut & chase does in CRP! I break mine up with tree plantings & that seems to help . Natural pockets of willows or dogwood in low spots. In MN I have spruce...
