    Burning corn residue?

Burning: ground will be blackened, and soil temps will rise for germination of seed. If it turns dry, might lose moisture for germination/young plants. Not burning: Corn litter will act as mulch. Will prevent erosion and evaporation of soil moisture. Tough call, advantages to both approaches.

Which one is Al Capone? Looks like they cleaned up.

    Walnut

Not a wood expert, but I think for veneer, you'd have to go below the 6' limb by a fair stretch to avoid the grain of the wood headed the direction of the limb. How low though? Probably lower the interest in the log is my guess.

    HF 927

If they are actually doing this, our current weather patterns are what they seek? I think that is the crux of the issue, they can't predict the outcomes, so stop playing Mother Nature. Does Elon and Donald know about this? What is their view? Seems prime for DOGE cuts.

    Spraying vs burning crp?

Brush hog then followed up with an older spool type hay rake to get the mowed grass piled up against the standing grass. Worked pretty well for our burns. Done smaller burns solo and did 115 acres of mature switch one spring but had a crew of 8 for that one.

Cedar caging and tree herbicide program

Cedars seem to be a weed/invasive species in eastern IA. Deer browse pressure and rubbing is minimal, such that I wouldn't bother caging them. If you mulch/mow/spray, they should take off. Don't have much experience with Norway's.

    Roadkill

Yeah, I get its spring dispersal, but are drivers blind?

    Roadkill

The amount of roadkill lately is stunning. I swear if there were two deer left in the state, motorists would run over three of them. ;):( With fewer deer around (hunting and EHD), are drivers becoming complacent?

    Thorny Locust Removal

Got to thinking more about this. At work, the toxic and hazardous chemicals are collected with them eventually going out of state where they are burned at high temperatures. Not 100% sure but I was told that they use the heat generated in part of the cement making process. Snip/link below...

Concerns on burning herbicide killed trees as firewood? I’d rather not, but seems like a waste. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Ag fencing

We are looking for recommendations for someone who does brush clearing and ag fence building in the eastern Iowa area, specifically Johnson County. Planning on woven with a strand or two of barb over top. 20 acre parcel that is up and down, across a creek or two (not fencing the big creek for...

    Tree Tube Options

I've used a dibble bar and maybe didn't know how to use it. You would think it'd be pretty straight forward. I'd step it in, rock it back and forth, remove it and put the tree in, stomp it shut. When I rocked it back and forth, it made a cavity down near the tip of the bar (pivoted at the...

    Who is shed hunting?!

I walked a property today, no sheds found. I did find a buck skull, probably 2 -3 years old, with the antlers sawed off above the brow tines. From the looks of it, there probably wasn't a lot above the brows, guessing 1.5 yr old. Pulled camera cards deployed Feb 2. Not an antler to be...

    Giant River Bottom Maples

I had a huge hollow cottonwood tree that was hollow and was a raccoon factory. I always wanted to toss a "water" balloon of gas into it and strike a match. A derecho took care of it for me.

    Deer Classic

Hopefully you grabbed a bag of fishing "plastic" worms off the table to not leave empty handed. I was throwing tickets in white buckets and read after I tossed a ticket in that it was for crossbow broadheads. Almost dug that ticket back out, LOL. I did win a white bucket raffle drawing for...

    Deer Classic

I heard that there was a foot chase through the hall, the DNR had an alert out for poacher who showed up with a rack/mount. I missed it, darn it!

Walking in on Friday I started talking to a couple who were from just north of Pike County. He mentioned is has rebounded a bit.
