This brings back a memory from 1967; I was trapping for coons and muskrats along a creek. I had a coon set with a #2 double coil spring, when I got to the set the area was torn to shreds and the trap empty. After close inspection the only tracks around were deer and a little bit of deer hair...
If not done properly it's not worth the aggravation. I hunted a few homemade stands in Canada, nothing but Aspen branches nailed to longer pieces for the ladder leading to a small wooden platform with an old milk crate to sit on! Not the best for sure, I prefer to use ladder stands that I can...
A late Christmas greeting to the great folks on Iowawhitetail!
Of course, my cams were on fire Christmas day late morning and afternoon. Saw 7 different bucks so I went out early this morning, saw 6 does and one decent buck but nothing like yesterday. It isn't over yet so I'm keeping my fingers...
I tried trapping a couple times with no results. My neighbor has shot 9 in a hollow behind my house with a creek bottom this year. Thermal night hunt, I was surprised he shot that many since I have few pics of them this year with 10 cams out.
Seemed earlier for me as well, I'm anticipating that some early born yearlings will come into heat mid-January and plan to hunt as much as I can since I have a tag burning a hole in my pocket. It isn't over yet!
Shot a buck years ago in early December, when I grabbed hit antlers to roll him over one came off in my hand. When I got to a butcher and pulled him out the other antler popped off!
Awesome! My buddy is 81 and still hunts in a couple different states with a crossbow. He'll put in all dayer's in the heat or cold and stay focus. We all can only wish to be able to hunt at an older age.
