    Pheasant Hunting Access?

Hi Gang, so my son has some time off from college this coming week of Thanksgiving. Since I'm tagged out in Iowa (deer), I am thinking of bringing him over to Iowa for a few days to hunt pheasants. I'm wondering if any of you might have some good pheasant property you would be willing to let us...

    Shoulder blade hit- thoughts?

Hey Skip. Late to this one, but here are some of my thoughts: You got one lung based on what you described. Two lungs, and he would be toast, as you said. No lung, and you wouldn't have had the amount and type of blood you described for that far (probably not at all). If the broadhead broke off...

    Shed poaching article

I like the way Steve thinks. Hopefully he used other methods of persuasion that were not shared with the author. Anyone that doesn't understand Steve's view has not worked a day in his life. Kudos to his efforts. Now, I gotta get to working on this global satellite security system to sell him... ;)

    Hanging deer

Aging venison absolutely helps! There are a lot of "sources" you can learn more about this. Chef Milos Cihelka released some VHS tapes on cooking wild game a long long time ago and since I started doing what he recommends, the quality of venison we have has improved tremendously. Meat care and...

Tell me why we should shoot more does

Right, EHD big reason too... absolutely... it takes a long time to come back from that, and coupled with those other elements, even harder... "come back" being very subjective too. Buffalo County has not had the EHD issues, and they're the best examples of smaller parcels and younger bucks...

Tell me why we should shoot more does

I'll throw this thought out there too... with cell cams, it's harder and harder for bucks to make it to 5+, so that may be contributing to the overall reduction in top-enders. It's similar, IMO, to how Illinois used to be great... then outfitters bring in guys that kill the best 2 & 3 year olds...

Tell me why we should shoot more does

My 2 cents on the original question... "managing does" should be done when the buck to doe ratio is out of whack or deer numbers are doing good. If you're seeing too many does for every buck you see (assuming you're a decent hunter), then shooting does keeps that sex ratio closer. A closer ratio...

Warning to the dads of young girls...

@madplotter that's me too...mine are 15 and 17 now. Time sure flies. It sounds like you've spent great quality time with them, and that's everything. I wouldn't be hard on yourself about pushing hunting more. I think kids either take to it or they don't. One of mine likes to hunt and the other...

    What's next for Republicans?

Anyone that still thinks Biden will be on the ballot this fall is kidding themselves. This has been the dems' plan for quite a while. Thank God this punk missed. DEI is literally causing deaths in law enforcement. The incompetence is sickening. My dad was a state policeman, so I grew up...

    Wyoming Elk

Right, definitely... great idea for areas you might hunt more than once in a lifetime. I've just learned that if I'm getting one chance in a great unit that I'll most likely never ever get to hunt again, then it's worth saving for that... and pinch/save on the other hunts. Another factor guys...

    Wyoming Elk

To elaborate just a bit, Wyoming's general units are too good to wait for the other limited tags. Point creep is nuts, so my strategy is to get a general tag as often as I can. Hunt other states on the years you are waiting for a general. If you hunt Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, that's...
