Not a bad read- it is crazy the amount of shed poaching.
eye for an eyeLuckily we have guys like Steve that work to catch these theives...I had guys trespass my farm last spring shed hunting and they stole a treestand too.
No, we need to stop with more stamps and licenses. Ruining our freedoms with more permits isn't a good idea I've been saying this for years.Add in a nonresident stamp as well newfarmer.
Not sure how you would enforce that.I know many won’t be a fan when I say this- mainly due to people who break the laws are going to break the laws.
I think we need a shed season (at least on public)- I know guys who start the moment gun seasons are over just because they are afraid someone else might get them.
I think if you’re shed hunting you should have a habitat license at least- if you’re using the resource and land, I think it should be paid for by everyone (most of us already are) and especially the people that are making profit.
I think trespass fees do need to go up, and just like deer, if you’re caught with antlers- penalty for every antler and size based fines
I would think they could do that pretty easy . Same goes for vehicles, ATVs… should start to get more common to catch these thieves !Not sure how you would enforce that.
"I'm not shed hunting, I'm bird watching".
You'd have to catch people with sheds.
Which leads me to another thought.... gps trackers in placed sheds. I've heard they do this with elk sheds to catch cheaters out west.
Just ignore that every spot I've walked on opening day for the last couple of years already had boot tracks everywhere in the snow or mud. It's impossible to enforce, shed seasons along with permits only hurts the people who do things the right way and follow the rules. I didn't even bother shed hunting opening day in Colorado or Wyoming because in Wyoming you can't shed hunt now until 7 days after Residents go out and Colorado turkey season has already been open 18 days in the areas I would go.Not sure how you would enforce that.

Ya that article surprised me that these thieves aren't getting felonies because punishment should be based on the value of the property stolen. Sounds like incompetent lazy LE.Insane. The penalty needs to be based on the value of the antlers stolen, otherwise these guys get a slap on the wrist. A property I hunt has been ravaged by shed hunters for years; I now walk stuff early and often. Caught multiple people on cam. One kid came back after being told not too and he was given a pass by the landowner and not charged, hopefully he learned his lesson. I'll probably start placing bait sheds like the guy in the story did.
