    CWD confirmed in IOWA

    I know how they'll handle it but it makes me sick to think about it. Decimate what is already decimated.

    Apple/Pear Trees

    Paul, I bought some dormant apple trees and pear trees, and a couple of the apples have already started to bud out inside my house. Will it be an issue if I plant those this weekend with a chances of frost the next month? I was going to plant them when I plant the ones I grew from seed but...

    Apple/Pear Trees

    I germinated the oaks in the fridge and then just placed them on top of the soil, just like mother nature does in the wild and just made sure to keep the acorn moist as it developed its roots. From what I've read you'll be fine planting the whole acorn, I just chose to do it this way...

    Deer stewardship (About fences in IA)

    I would think most of the deer that get caught in a fence had a previous injury of some sort and couldn't quite make it over when attempting to jump the fence. Just my thoughts. That's a lot of dead deer stuck in a fence.

    Apple/Pear Trees

    Wanted to share some photos of my winter project. These are ECOS pears, wild apples, and American Persimmons from Oikos all grown from seed. The bur oaks are from acorns from a 7 year old "bur oak" tree in our backyard that surprisingly produced a hefty crop of acorns this year so I took...

    public land encounters

    I've fortunately never had any run ins yet, just have talked to guys in the parking lot and I did run into a friendly fellow a few years ago during late muzz, and had a shed hunter come through on me during late muzz last year, but that still turned out to be a good hunt. I have seen some...

    Help for dbltree...

    Paul, was chronic lyme misdiagnosed as ALS? If that's the case then that sounds like some positive information since it is possible to treat lyme. Praying for you! Stay tough.

    Elk hunting pack

    I've never been on an elk hunt but regarding packs you really can't go wrong with Badlands. Their warranty is top notch. I have a 2200 frame pack that that I pack my stand and sticks and in and out on...also use it to carry my blind when turkey hunting. I've had the pack for four years now...

    iowawhitetail coyote count and random dog hunt pic

    Looks like Friday night is going to be the night to go if the clouds clear off. Hourly forecast says fresh snow tomorrow morning then clear skies at night. I think the full moon is on Friday too.
