    Brassicas

Skip, I checked that field Saturday when I was mowing some clover and it’s all starting to come up, really small but it’s there. I was a little worried with all the residue left over from the crp, but it’s actually helping hold moisture. Other field that we disced up, looking pretty bare and...

Here’s the plot in the crp Closer look of the ground Another shot where you can actually see some dirt

    Brassicas

We used non treated urea and tilled it in along with other fertilizer. So hope that helps, and it doesn’t all evaporate. We might have gotten a sprinkle at our farm but that’s it. Was calling for 1/2” but it all went south of us. I started a new plot in some crp. Mowed it about 3 weeks ago and...

The "Rona" made us better turkey hunters

What about owls? Seems easy pickins for an owl to swoop down and knock one right off the roost. They had a turkey biologist on MeatEater podcast few weeks back. Talked all about turkeys and that was one of their main predators.

    Kid 2 done

I’ve opened up a makeshift gate before and had them come thru that. If I cut a hole in the fence mr farmer neighbor would be on it like flies on you know what. One little limb falls down on our fence and he wants us to fix the entire section

    Kid 2 done

Awesome!! How did you coax him over the hog wire fence? I can’t for the life of me get them to fly over ours. They strut up and down that thing for hours

    Cold morning

Cold and slow morning for me. Heard a few gobbles around 6am then quiet. Got a couple birds fired up around 2 that ended up coming in silent and a little out of range. Hope tmrw is a little better.

    Deer Depradation Must Read

I have friends and a lot of family that farm and most all carry a .22 or shotgun in the combine. Usually for those last few rows if a bunch of roosters or some other legal critter flush out the end. They’re not out there shooting all the deer that run out

    Updated 2020 new pond thread

That’s awesome. We have a similar pond on my dad’s farm. Not 6 acres big but it’s about 2 1/2 acres. Built by the government in early 70’s. I guess they built a lot in our area back then. It was the first real project we took on when he purchased the ground. It was all silted in and the back...

    Public land pressure

Come out the coldest part of February if you want to shed hunt public. I’m talking single digits. You won’t have a lot of competition on the week days. Work was slow last year during the coldest part of winter and I walked a lot of public just for something else to walk and found quite a few...

    RUT ACTIVITY UPDATES?

Sat in a funnel between 2 timbered draws last two mornings and saw lots of movement til about 830. Mostly young bucks. Movement slowed way down midday. Had one doe get chased all over by a scrub buck but other than that a lot of lone does and does with yearlings. Think I saw every buck on the...

    Shot analysis needed

Shot one in same spot few years ago. He was on a hot doe, kept following her after the shot. Tracked him few hours later for 300 yards and blood petered out to dark specks and we lost it. Looked for 2 days never found him or arrow. He made the weirdest growl/gurgling noise I’ve ever heard when...

    RUT ACTIVITY UPDATES?

Had a 4 yr old buck chasing a doe all thru our crp. He ran a couple younger bucks off then went back to her and hunkered down. Did that 2 or 3 times. Never got closer than 100 yards Seems like your either in the action or it’s pretty dead

    Surprise bucks?

We pretty much get the same bucks on our 50 acres. Once in a while a stranger will show up usually mid day sometime in November. Late season is when we usually get 3 or 4 surprise bucks because we’re the only one within a few miles that leaves corn/beans standing and food plots

    Thoughts on E Bikes?

Same here hahaha! These things look sweet. Some of the farms I hunt have a mile walk up and down steep terrain. Be nice to get 3/4 way to my setup and not be soaked halfway there. About need to wear shorts and a t shirt but that’s hard to do when it’s 20 degrees out. I’m thinking next year I...
