I hope you smoke a GIANT and watch him fall! My only input is this.... If a guy is dedicated enough to go SIT IN THE FREAKING RAIN, I have a hard time believing he is irresponsible.
I killed my second biggest buck on Thanksgiving morning 4 years ago. He was cruising for the ladies! I would recommend hunting near doe bedding ares in the mornings and food sources in the evenings. Seems like every year i see a big deer out in an Agg field checking does this time of year...
That is one thing i hate about KS! There is no out of state draw... Pretty much there are a limited (1,000,000) non-resident tags, so as long as you sign up early you will get one.
Seriously...? The guy is already bummed because he made a bad shot. Go ahead kick him while he is down why dont ya! I bet you there are a 100 guys on here that can tell a story of a deer they watched fall from the tree stand. No one goes out in the rain intending to gut shoot a deer!
I have only used a decoy a handful of times but i have had some pretty good luck when i did. I always quarter the decoy toward me 25-30 yards out. That way if a buck does commit he will generally face the decoy giving you a quartering away shot under 25 yards. Hard to beat that!!!
I know a guy that pees out of his stand every sit! I swear he has a bladder the size of a pea. But he still manages to kill big deer. He tells me he has been doing it for year and it doesn't bother the deer. Personally, i refuse to! I will get down and walk a 100 yards before i let it loose out...
Mine is hanging on a bow holder 99% of the time. I only take it off when it is GO time! I position my bow hanger so it is above me and my bow is hanging right in front of me. That way when i need it i can reach straight out for it vs. reaching to one side or another. But i have never got busted...
I agree with the grunt call! I have grunted multiple bucks in over the past few years. But i can not say that i have ever "blind" rattled a buck bigger than 115"... Maybe i just suck at it but most of the time i do not see anything after a rattle sequence.
Well i hung a camera for him last night. I have a tree picked out if he decides to show up... Only time will tell. I did realize that i have the sheds from this deer last year! He was actually an 8 pointer last year... He blew up this year!
I have actually done this a few times! Last weekend i went out and sat with my girl friend trying to kill a deer we named Moose. I rattled a few sequences with his sheds from last year! Apparently he knows the sound of his antlers, he was a no show!
The ladder stand is on your property. I went through this with a buddy a few years ago. He had a lease that backed up to a park. The fence was attached to a tree that was growing on the park side of the fence but leaned toward his property. So he hung a ladder stand and it ended up costing him!
