    Big Buck Hunting

Edges are good for seeing deer, but not for getting them close unless you call and decoy. Find a good funnel or doe bedding areas and park it there.

A little bit of an additional challenge during the rut.

I'm dealing with a very similar problem right now. The eye does heal quickly. God does have a way of reminding us those antlers aren't as important as we like to make them, doesn't He?

Fooling Full House-The End Of A 2 Year History

That's one stud of a 4 year old! It looks like you really appreciate an animal like that, based on the pics you posted. Good to see.

    Southern Iowa Weather Nov 5-8

A buddy of mine shot a massive 10 two years ago on Nov. 8 in the afternoon when the temp was over 70. I seem to remember it was closer to 80! That buck was at least 5 years old, likely 6 or 7, and up on his feet cruising.

Someone tell me Im not crazy

That's a future booner. No way he's over 3. Very little mass, short beams, but lots of points. You did the right thing if you want to shoot a great deer!

    I pooped my pants.

This post is great! It's good to get a really good laugh on here once in a while. None of you know how bad it can be until it runs down your leg inside your long underwear to your boot while running from your stand location so as not to contaminate it!

Please don't apologize for being pic heavy. This is a great thread! For those of us who have small farms and few bucks to choose from, it's a pleasure to see.

I think you're right on. 2.5 last year, makes him 3 this year, 150's gross. One more year he'll be a giant!

    The Blue Jeans Buck

I took my daughter out to sit with me the other night. She has no scent free clean clothes, so I didn't waste the time to get mine out. I actually hunted in sweat pants I wear around the house, and smoked a doe! I'm curious as to what state you live in Seth, if you're tagged out already?

Best Days To Hunt The Rut

As an Illinois bowhunter, the gun season is always the week before Thanksgiving. I have hunted Thanksgiving weekend hard many times, and have never had experiences like those who live in Iowa or Kansas, who don't have the timber terrorized by the Orange army until December. I would love to...

Take him out of the gene pool?

He's a cool deer with character. Unless you have a hitlist full of booners, I see no reason not to shoot him.

    Tree stand precaution

It's risky leaving stands with straps up all year. Another good idea is to let the straps loose a little after the season is over if you're going to leave them up. As trees grow, they stretch the straps thin and weaken everything on the stand if they're too tight.

That last pic is so good it doesn't look real! I shot one last year I had no history with, and would love to have someone come up with some pics like that!

I promise you that deer is over 175 gross. I think you answered your own question. "He's a beast." That pretty much sums it up.

    Hard horn already?

As their velvet dries, it thins and "hugs" the antlers, making it look like the have shed before they have. That would be my guess here.
