    Target bucks

I did get one video with a couple of nice youth season target bucks pushing each other around (120"ish). Of course they don't show up when we're sitting there . . .

    Skeeters

Woof, the skeeters got bad this year. I hope the thermacell doesn't screw his youth hunt up, but it's that or stay home. . . .

    Favorite antler characteristics

Mass makes up for a lot of things. I'll take a monster, massive 6pt over a tall spindly 8-10pt

    Youth season

Ok, if we can get the forecast to drop another 5-10 degrees this weekend might be ok for the youngsters. We won't be able to get out until Sunday. It would be nice if it wasn't in the 80's.

Sounds like this just might work out. Good luck.

    Dual permission

Sounds promising. If noone else is bowhunting it then it may work out. Noone is early muzzy hunting?? Are you planning to hunt there at all besides bow season?

    Dual permission

I have lived this. I hunted a farm for 20 years and then the owner's son took over. He didn't ask me not to hunt, but he let a few of his buddies in. Eventually it ended up being too busy and I hardly saw any decent ones any more. I ended up just not hunting there any more . . . If you want to...

    Big 6

One of the coolest bucks I ever saw was a 21" wide 6pt with 13"g2's that were massive. I'm a sucker for them, but I agree that you don't want those genetics. Have a youth hunter that would be tickled to shoot him?

Youth Hunter Tactics, goals, ideas, etc???

I guess the way I've seen it is that I want to give them an opportunity to see what it is like and decide for themselves if it is something that they might have a passion for. While they're young, Dad will kind of set things up for them. After they are 16 there is plenty of time for them to...

Youth Hunter Tactics, goals, ideas, etc???

My son's last year as a youth hunter. He can shoot what he wants. We have no "target deer" that we are looking for so he will need to make the choice on what to shoot when. Pretty sure he'll shoot the first 120" buck that shows up or if he gets impatient he'll whack a doe. Either way we'll have...

“Hunting shows” - net positive or negative?

I still enjoy watching some hunting shows. Maybe I am just simple minded, but I watch these shows and it gets me fired up for season. I imagine myself in that scenario and feel just a small taste of that anticipation and excitement. I do like seeing some new tactics too.

Anyone have any feedback on Radixhunting.com and their Monarch blinds?

They were great about it. They sent me another cover, but it had the same cruddy zippers . . . . I just think a non zipper design would be better. May not seal as well, but will open and close easier and quieter.

Anyone have any feedback on Radixhunting.com and their Monarch blinds?

I hope the zippers are better than the ones on my Redneck soft side blind. They are just terrible. I ended up poking holes and using bungee cords to hold the windows up.

    Planting Green

Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . Lucky you getting your rain . . . Rub it in . . . . Ha ha It is looking really good, I'm just jealous. The rain seems to go around us every time.

Iowa Timber rattle snakes- Seem to be on the rise?

NE Iowa the DNR actually clear cut the Cedar trees on some of the more bare side hills for rattler habitat. Just great for those of us that climb those hills to get to the turkeys. See more and more every year.

    Target bucks

Yeah, where we hunt a lot changes from Summer to Fall. Rarely do I see deer in Summer pics that are still around for Fall, but I know a lot of you have your nice ones living on your land. Just getting a excited a little early and hoping some of you are seeing some that get you pumped.

Anybody having any old or new potential target bucks showing up on cams? All I have gotten so far are does with fawns and young bucks.
