We did ours Sunday afternoon. Broadcasted directly onto the burnt field with a solo spreader. The intermittent rain has been nice. Hopefully there will be some great results in a couple of weeks.

Went out last night and put some lines in. All the sunfish were gone but on the last one there was a whopper. My first flathead but he was 10-12 inches between the eyes. Released to get bigger.

Burning here on Sunday hopefully. Water should help keep things from getting crazy. Looks like some good rain potential at the end of the month.

If I'm just going to broadcast before a good rain do you think I should go a little heavier on the recommended seeding rate?

Unfortunately the Middle River is to the north and eastern and southern areas are too steep, even by foot. The only access area got washed out with the flash flooding a couple weeks back. No competition back here. It's good to have a hunting buddy who helps out. I'll keep updates going once...
Last year after a busy November things went pretty dead as the deer moved to the surrounding Winterset/river bottom ag fields. Having hundreds of acres of cover and timber in the area didn't do much without grub. So this being the first year to work it I went in and and frost seeded an acre...
I've always liked Redneck if you can afford them. Great quality, well insulated and plenty of room. I'm building my own early August but if I was going for nice and easy it'd be a Redneck for sure.

I planted three white peaches this spring that had tons of buds on them. Then a yellow as well a few weeks later. Currently the yellow is doing great but the whites never really kicked into gear, have small leaves and the limbs have started dying back. There was a fluke night where it got well...
Any idea where around Winterset? Im bout 2 miles southeast of Winterset right off the middle river. 1000 acre block of very secluded timber that's either blocked by the river north or the tall bluffs south of it. I had a passing trailcam picture last fall of what looked like a long tail but...
Stopping at Lappe in East Peru on Saturday to pick up some Italian bees. Figured we'd give it a shot this year with one hive and see how it goes . Planted a ton of hardwoods and a couple dozen fruit trees last month.

Prions/proteins are adaptable and able to mutate to survive in many environments. Usually evolutionary jumps aren't slow over time but abrupt. We see this all the time with bacteria when they become more resistant and immune to antibiotics. All it takes is for something to make that initial...
We have 100 saplings coming from the state nursery in April. Chinkapin, Bur, shagbark hickory and black cherry. The land already has tons of black walnuts we'll be movin around to thin as well. We'll also be planting some American Bittersweet on the fence and fruit trees around the clover...
Inquired yesterday with the Warren Water District about getting water run to the property to keep all the new saplings and plots watered this year. For the low cost of 3000 dollars i can get a water meter installed 30ft from the road. So I started looking at other options.
I've talked with...
