Great ideas guys. Hiring a forester is a great idea for me. I am out of state, so having a person helping would be great. Any forester you guys recommend? Go to the state??
What companies are out there to log Walnuts out of a timber in SW iowa?? I have a bunch of venir walnut trees in the timber I would like to talk to a company about logging them out and the price.
Is this a good idea? The timber is the "park like" image. See alot of big bucks crusing during...
My farthest was a buck last year at 150ish. Hit dead nutz. Wouldn't be affraid to shoot 200 but man, you guys are making me think I should be shooting alittle farther. I am shooting 250 shockwave, 90 grs of blackhorn 209 with a cci magnum primer. 3 inches high at 100 and dead nutz at 150...
Man, thanks for the replys. The whole sw iowa deal is because my wife and I own 240 acres there and would like to sell our farm in WI and build down here. Alot cheaper to live in Iowa than wi FOR SURE! I love the hunting on my farm, but I know that it is pretty rural and I worry about finding...
for a living?? I have a biology degree and my wife and i are thinking about making the jump and move to iowa. Only problem.....i don't know if I can find a job down there. My wife is a vet, so that wouldn't be a problem, but I need to find something to do. Anyone have any ideas about job...
Would this be something people would utlize in this area?? Leagues, archery, sporting goods, camera, food plot mixes etc. I just see that the area is getting pretty pounded with hunting outfitters etc and I think that if there was a shop close by people could go to would be a great deal...
I was wondering where people go to get archery/gun supplies in SW ia. If you need to get something quick, are there any places a guy could go to get those items?? This is the Clarinda, Bedford area. Thanks guys
My buddy has the tag. I just wanted to come down to the farm for some days. thought it would be fun to sit and call for some dogs. The way everything is stated is just confusing. Maybe I should just call and ask. Feel like an idot.......can't even find out the regs in a regs booklet. haha...
License not required for qualifying resident and nonresident landowners or tenants or their juvenile children when hunting or trapping on their own land
9Hunting license and habitat fee required for all nonresidents hunting deer and turkey.
This is quoted from the site. So yes, for deer and...
The regs are very confusing. They state that a nr landowner doesn't need a license to hunt coyote of their own land. But the way it is worded, I don't know. So I still need to get a hunting license for sure?? I wish it was clearer
He is a tool!! I wouldn't talk to anyone ever again if that happened to me. Buddy isn't the word. Like most said, why have horns you didn't shoot if you know the person who shot it. Not saying I don't keep horns if I find a dead buck, but if I know the person who killed it.....i would give...
I am going down during the late muzzy season and want to coyote hunting while my buddies are on the other part of the farm. Basically waste time during sits. My question
Since I am the landowner, do I need any tags to hunt coyotes? I thought somewhere I saw that landowners don't need any...
Every waking moment in the stand I have a chew. Never once did a deer spook from this. They lick it, walk pass, etc. They don't associate the new smell to a human 20 feet above them. Smelly arm pits, you bet all day long. A little slug spit isn't going to ruin a hunt imo. Chew away and...
I was mistaken with the powder load. I shoot 90 grs by weight for the BH209. Thanks to all that caught that. I believe it is like shooting 140grs of triple 7 etc. Just wanted to make sure you guys didn't think I was a moron. haha
Join the club. I have shot many loads, powders, grains etc and finally found a good load that shoots good out of my TC. I find that in order to keep it consistant, clean the bore and breech plug every shot to keep every shot the same. Once you shoot once, the bore and plug are dirty and will...
I agree with most of you guys. A full out running deer shouldn't be taken. I have hunted public land for most of my life in WI. Most of the deer I shot were running or trotting. Luckily, I never wounded a deer. The difference was that I was using a rifle with a scope. The bullet gets there...
I called Weaver and the screws are coming. Should be here tonight and I can blast and make sure it is on. I would feel comfortable at 50 yds but 75-100yds I just am not. Thanks guys.
