Thanks for putting into perspective what really matters in life. It is NOT the deer we shoot, but the people in our lives that matter most. And thanks for setting an example of how to love your wife and kids even when you would prefer to be hanging with the boys. We all have a lot to learn from you.
Don't get to get into the stand during the week because of work, so I don't know how my part of the state is doing. Anyone hunting Boone County seeing much activity? Won't be able to get out until tomorrow afternoon. Hoping I'll see something after two weekends of not seeing a single deer.
Are you using a Moultrie D-555i? I've never used the video on mine, but I have the same problem with getting super clear photos even on the highest setting.
Got a little cold sitting in my blind this morning, so I went and pulled the card 50 yards in front of me. Found this guy. I'm not great at judging size so I'd like your opinion. I'd guess him at 4 or 5 and 150's. I'll post better pics when I get home.
If you hang a stand that requires climbing sticks, just take the sticks with you. Most people would either not notice it, or just keep on going because they won't have their own sticks.
I thought it was completely legal to shoot them if they were to walk by. The Iowa DNR "didn't have anything to do" with bringing them here, remember. So they aren't protected or native to Iowa.
Ridgeport Locker is just north of Boone about 8 miles or so. There is also one in Stanhope, and one that just opened in Story City. The Story City owner was mentored by the owner of the locker in Atlantic. I might give the Story City locker a try this year.
Different deer. The right side on the first picture has longer tine length, and appears to have a smaller nub of a drop tine as well. Definitely different deer. But then a years difference could cause that. Must be old if it's the same one.
Took my nine year old nephew tonight, and he attempted to fill his youth tag on a really nice, big bodied buck. Came out by himself about 10 minutes before sunset. He was definitely one of the bigger bucks in the area, and the only deer we saw tonight. Too bad my nephew pulled the shot. Oh well...
I've seen one of these lights in use. It has a red and green light that you can use independent of each other, or together. Together made the blood simply glow. On or both of the others can make the really dark, almost black. I think Primos has one in the $40 range.
