I dont know much, but I just planted/tubed/staked 125 seedlings this past weekend. About 35 swamp white oaks were interplanted in about a 2 acre section of the timber. Winter 2024 I cut and treated all the honeysuckle and multiflora in that section. A lot more sun is getting to the floor now...
My farm has a really good population fall and into winter. Come March it seems they largely transition elsewhere. I'd love to trap if I was closer, daily trap checks are not feasible for me. Overall though driving around the hotspots where I could count on seeing large flocks of birds has...
It might drop rec land prices some. My down payment was largely money I had invested in an individual brokerage account. For some that may have been socking money away into an account to use as a down payment on a farm and were getting close to maybe buying something this spring or this year...
I've been working on farm some the past two winters on a plan drawn up by my district forester to control invasives, specifically bush honeysuckle and multiflora rose. Have your district forester come out and inspect the property and they will make a plan and then you can do the work and largely...
Never heard of Blaines. I could check Tractor Supply, maybe 20 minutes away. Is it a better price than the $59 from amazon? Is what is in the link the right stuff?
After checking a few stores and not finding what I need, is ordering this right here from Amazon what I am looking for? Could only find diluted round up stuff at a few stores.
Looking to spray about a 1/4 acre hour for a plot...
I would say if he is only shooting 1 deer a year then I wouldnt let it bother me to much. Just enjoy hunting with dad. I tell my dad even on my farm if a buck comes in I dont care what it is, if it gets him excited and he wants to shoot then shoot. I know I wont be able to hunt with him forever.
I'm excited to get out. Sort of a bummer on my farm though. I dont know where they go, but during the fall and through the winter I have like 30 birds roosting in it daily and on cam etc, they spend the whole day there. Usually a group of 10 or so toms. Every sit in the fall they are in the...
Small white pine definitely will need protected. They love to eat the needles in the winter and rub them. Once they get pretty good sized they don't seem to care to eat the needles as much
Here's some photos I took this past weekend of the timber/field edge. You can see there is already a pretty good 10 or so yard wide swath of grass/brush between the timber and field edges. Think this is a good idea to try and convert these areas to switchgrass?
My idea would be it would help as...
Im not sure on trees. But thats what I've used the past two winters for multi flora rose and honey suckle. the mfr i basal bark srpayed and the honey suckle was stump cut and then treat the stump. It did a great job and killed both really well. Some of the honeysuckle was huge too, some probably...
