    Off topic... Hawkeye football

This thread is pretty quiet today! But then, there's not much talk about the game in Ames either!

    Quiz for the day

Iowa 1, I think your assertion that there are many Iowa deer that aren't been submitted for the record book is correct. I would also say that there is at least some correlation between those states that allow high power rifles and the number of big bucks taken. In Iowa, we can't reach out and...

    Ames Urban Hunt Details

Proficiency Test: 1. Hunters must pass an authorized archery proficiency test each year with the weapon they will use to hunt with in Ames. The tests will not allow for any warm up shots and will only allow for a maximum of two attempts each year to successfully complete the test. 2. The...

    Permanent stand materials?

None of the artificial stuff I'm aware of is supposed to be used for structural framing. If you've ever worked with it on a hot, sunny day you know why ... a 16' plank gets floppy as a noodle. And I'd have to agree about "permanent" blinds. Elements, wind movement, tree growth and gravity all...

    Let the smack talk begin!

Yep, Teeroy, Syracuse really mixed it up on that goaline series! I kept thinking they'd run a bootleg or an option on the right and bam, they'd keep trying to bang it inside. Between Meyer, Blythe, Flynn and Koch, the Hawks won't have it nearly as easy in the same situation.

    Let the smack talk begin!

Limb, If you're gonna throw up Iowa's record for the past four years, then why list only the last three ISU-Iowa games. Could it be because in 2002, the Hawks were on the losing end of a 36-31 score? But I guess the stats sound better without that missing fact!!!

    Let the smack talk begin!

I won't go so far as to call it an @ss whoopin', but I think the Clones will finally gell on offense and the defense will be just good enough... 21-17 ISU. (That said, I wouldn't mind gettin' a few more interference calls this week!!)

first trail cam pictures this year

    muzzleloader shooters

All good advice. My gun is capable of handling 150 grain loads but had such good luck shooting 295 gr. Powerbelts with 100 grains (2 50 gr. Pyrodex pellets), I've never tried anything else. And why punish your shoulder when you don't have to!

    Any runners on here?

That's an impressive collection. No medals here and I've cut way back in recent years, but have two marathons, a half-dozen Dam-to-Dams, and a couple of Living History Farms runs under my belt, along with dozens of 5K and 10K runs. Muddy, just stick with it, you can do it. If there's one thing...

    Ames Urban bowhunt proposal

Thanks for the heads up. Hadn't heard that this was being considered. I have seen deer many times at Inis Grove, often does bedded along the hillside near where Duff curves to the west. I've even seen 'em crossing Duff to browse in the yards on the west side north of 24th St. I see by the...
