    calm down

I talk myself thru my shots. Not out loud but in my mind. This year when I first pulled up on my buck it was "relax, I can make a kill, pin on target, hey dummy your not looking thru peep, relax, release.

    Changing Iowa Trespassing Law

No question for these situations hopefully no charges can be filed also why I stated rapidly increasing penalties. By no means am I implying you but that is an often used excuse too.

    Food Plots and Baiting

Completely depends on the plot size and purpose. Many people plant (or do not harvest) simply for the benefit of wildlife making it thru the winter or getting a different nutritional source during the antler growing months. Some do hunt them and some do not. I know if you are smart you can...

    High Risk/No Reward (yet)

Too risky. I wouldn't take a full frontal shot. Maybe I've gotten too soft in my old age but I don't like the thought of wounding deer and not recovering them. I limit my shooting range well shorter than what I can do with a target for that exact reason. In fact I remove my +35 pins...

    Changing Iowa Trespassing Law

As a landowner and someone who deals with trespassers on a yearly basis this issue needs to be addressed. I do think a rapidly increasing penalty for repeat offenders is right. There is never an excuse of not knowing exactly whose property you are on. Good fences or not its our...

    Food Plots and Baiting

Technically its not "normal" to leave it there thru spring either.

    Food Plots and Baiting

I seem to think its more relevant on how it got there (grown or placed) not if something is mowed or knocked over. Yes you can knock over corn but you don't have to beans, clover, rye, turnips.....etc etc. No question the DNR or legislature should clarify it.

    Lock down....questions.

Agreed. They are not all locked down at once and the does will still move to feed. How far he pressures her away from her normal routine can depend on other bucks in the area. https://www.qdma.com/articles/is-the-lockdown-phase-a-myth

    Food Plots and Baiting

I got the impression if you plant it its a plot no matter what you do with it. If it isn't planted you can't hunt directly over it. Bait” means grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, hay, salt, mineral blocks, or any other natural food materials, commercial products containing natural food...

    Food Plots and Baiting

Every year the same questions come up about baiting and food plots on a number of outdoor/hunting forums. I think we all would agree that the law is somewhat vague. While not made 100% clear, this older video with the DNR and the Drury's seem to clarify it to some extent. My interpretation...

    What Would You Do?

Really hard decision. I'd decide once the opportunity to harvest him comes up. May never see him again.

    Any scrapes yet?

Usually by the 15th of Sept I'm seeing some scrapes but not this year. What's everyone seeing?

Managing multiple hunters on one property

Depends on the amount of work to tear down and set up. I'd also be cautious if they get along well with the landowner. It shouldn't cause issues but you never know.

How are the shot gunners doing?

No question there has to be a balance of how many deer and how many does v bucks are harvested. One thing I've never understood is how people get upset for "other people" shooting "small" bucks in "their" area. Generally speaking they simply must not understand how the whitetail population...

    What is wrong with PEOPLE!!!

Its going to happen more during gun season out of pure common sense. (Not that I'm crediting poachers for having common sense.) 1. They have a tag during season. If they get stopped or "checked" its pretty hard for the DNR to dispute where it was shot unless caught in the act. At that point...

    Ethics:

I own ground and manage it during bow and when we group hunt it during shotgun. Only kids get to shoot at bucks we would not consider wallhangers and once they shot a buck they have to become selective too. Not everyone is hunting for wall hangers. Many groups hunt for the tradition...

    This is correct.

    Two LOT questions

One any-sex landowners per farm. Everything under that farm name is included no matter which county its in. I use to buy multiple any-sex tags to group hunt with 2nd gun season. I would use my landowner any-sex tag for 1st season shotgun and 2nd if I shot a buck on my ground. My reg firearm...

    Makes no sense

I do both, nothing wrong with giving the shotgun hunters the woods to themselves. Archery gets almost 3 months while SG gets 5 or 9 days. Archery also gets the peak of the rut. I'm bow first and I'll take how it is now any day of the year.
