    Milo

FWIW, I watched a few bucks come out and munch on the heads from time to time. Definitely didn't get larger groups in the winter weather hitting hard like I imagined. However, my neighbor had a good amount of standing beans that had 10-20 deer in them nightly. I suspect that was part of...

    Off the wall idea

I think you have to decide which camp you're in.. Food within cover, or no food in cover so they come out and eat the food where I want them to. Just a thought.. From a habitat standpoint, mixing these in with switchgrass sounds very neat!

    Milo

February 23rd, 2025 Surprising amount leftover, especially given the area was only 1.5 acres, and the three different single digit cold fronts we've had. Kicking myself for not at least mowing a portion as a "test patch" to see if that nets better use. All in all, not bad for a drill...

Day 2 Mission: Making City Park woods into Bedding area

Looks very bottom landish? Great opportunity to plant some swamp white oaks. Was this a TSI project? Looks to be a decent amount of canopy still over much of it. Could slow regen.

    PH drill questions

Seems like this is basically at Great Plains 3P500. At least you can get a small seed box on the GP, as well as individual closer wheels for better depth control...

Only 17 minutes of use? That’s cute. But hard pass.

Prescribed Burn - Backpack Blower Recommendations

Yep, access trail. I blow all mine clear in Feb/March after the season and most bucks leave our farm. Then great early to mid season until the leaves start to fall. The 800 C-E is great, more padding / better harness and I personally love the quick start feature while wearing.

Agreed. Just wondering how often he recommends this for clients.

    Fencing Deer Movement

Firsthand experience from Higgins on this? Just curious how often he does this in his own property or recommendations for clients.

    Real world vs whitetail institute

I believe WI clover has berseem in it which won’t frost seed as well as the ladino and red clovers in RWW. So between the two you’ll get more bang for your buck from RWW. Or just find some coated ladino and medium red and make your own mix. For whatever reason, I’ve never had much chicory...

Deer Gro products -Plot Start and Plot Boost

Most co-ops and even home improvement stores have 40 or 50 lb bags of pelletized lime. $6 - $8 / bag. Very easy to find..

    Brassicas not touched

Interesting.. they took about a year for mine. Now the tops get eaten early and the bulbs start to get eaten in December or so.

    Late winter food

Grain sorghum is great, and a very easy grain to grow. First hard cold spell and it will get hammered. Find a good red hybrid grain sorghum (instead of a screening product) for a shorter height and bigger heads. You can use WGF sorghum but I prefer the hybrid varieties instead that end up...

    Late winter food

Similar experience this year. Turnips and radish both rotted early, despite planting later in the fall. Field was a ghost town. Meanwhile, my neighbors bean field had 26 deer in it..

    Keep on shooting the trophies

Complete extermination is just easier, that way there aren't any deer at all to have such issues. - The Missouri solution.

Old thread but thinking about mixing some white proso millet in with Milo and sunflowers for quail and turkeys mainly. Anyone have any experience with White Proso?
