    Running behind on growth

I compared some pics from last year end of May to recent pics and this year is a bit behind. Young bucks last year had brows started and older bucks had pretty good beams going. Did the rough winter set things back? Cold Spring? I'll try to get some pics up later, just wondered what others...

    Plot Project...ideas greatly appreciated.

Will clover survive that far north? Guess biggest thing I learned about small wooded plots is be patient. May take 2-3 years to get it right. Lots of fun to watch it grow though!!

    Broadcasting on no-till?

I don't have squat for equipment so my plot consisted of clearing with chainsaw and then nuke everything with Round-up about every 6-8 weeks all summer then broadcast early fall and pray for rain. My plot with better soil is really doing pretty well plus I frost seed to try giving it a boost...

    Broadcasting on no-till?

A lot of discussion over on qdma site about no-till plots. I have done a few and if you spray and kill multiple times before seeding you get better results. Timely rain helps a lot too.

    Trail cam Survey

Please put actual time when you say "good on batteries." I think cams that don't need new batteries for 3 months are doing great, 3 weeks is fair, 3 days no way. Realizing cold weather and IR both put a lot more drain on battery life. I have 3 models of Leaf River because my buddy can get...

    Lime question

Depends on what your soil pH is up there and I recall that it is often near neutral in many places, so would require no lime. Your local farmers might know.

    Taking the plunge

I like my Leaf Rivers, battery life measured in months and under $300 for most models.

    Alfalfa

Re: Alfalfa - Falcata alfalfa How appealing or how much protein does early season alfalfa have? Some nice looking fields coming up in my area but the deer seem to still be focused on picked corn fields.

    Digital Camera Help

No expert here, but have seen many folks suggest buying from B&H photo on the web. We took the advice and got a great deal on our Nikon D40. Good luck in your search. Trigger speed is a tough one.

    Youth starter bow?

I agree on the biscuit, both of my kids shoot them and do well. As far as bow choice, I have picked up used bows off internet, mostly archerytalk classifieds. We liked the Tom Thumb from Stacey archery the best especially for the size your guy is at.

    Clover

Re: Clover - frost seeding time I frost seeded yesterday in a couple wooded plots and wondered how much impact the leaf litter will have. Is it going to reduve seed germination a lot? Sure was nice to get out even if none of it grows!

    Alfalfa on shares

Most of the management, spraying, fertilizer, etc is going to be up to landowner although I am not opposed to helping out. I saw first hand this year how the new alfalfa next door sucked tons of deer that direction. He has allowed me to do a few small clover plots on clearings in wooded land...

    Picture issues, computer trouble

Tried to connect memory card from trail cam to computer at home and got a bunch of errors and some thing called exploit.jpg Wife did a little research and looks like it may be a virus? I'm not good with this at all, but scared to death about losing many trail cam pics. Most were already backed...

    Alfalfa on shares

Landowner where I hunt and I were discussing putting in alfalfa. Deal is he provides dirt and horsepower, I provide for cost, at least part, of seed and get to influence location, within reason. He keeps the hay. Question is how much will seed cost per acre? Any pitfalls or problems to consider?
