    Bear pistols

But you can't carry a 12 ga while bow hunting and even if I could I wouldn't for the weight in the mountains. No doubt it's better at deterring a bear, but so is a 375 H7H.

    Bear pistols

First and foremost...never pass up an opportunity to buy a gun at your wife's request! Weight is very important to me. So to me, the only options are the Glock 29 or Springfield Compact 10 MM's.

    Rain

Oh what beautiful weather!!! 1/2"in SE Iowa so far but another 1/2" expected throughout the day. My turnips planted over a month ago have come up but are only a few inches tall. This should let them take off. Thank God it did no till.

Convince me NOT to shoot this deer

I'm shooting him any chance I get, but you should let him go so your neighbor has more chances.

What would you do with this deer?

None of us have a crystal ball...so I try to play the odds. This is a really nice deer that took a HUGE jump in one year. On three legs no less. I say the odds of a three leg deer taking a significant jump back to back are not zero but very slim. Like... Good jump 10% Same 60% Less 30% With...

Cementum Aging - Am I Wrong?

That makes more sense! While 9.5 is very old, and I never would have guessed that, I can never tell the difference from 5 to whatever. If your 2020 pictures were of a 1.5 year old deer, or 2022 were of a 3.5, I was going to have to throw in the towel of ever being able to age a deer by...

    New Iowa Regulations

After hearing the reasoning behind it, I've got no problem with the data being collected or providing the information.

Not something you see on a trail camera ever

Very cool...but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed. From the title I was expecting Bigfoot. :(

    Plant ID Help

I just tried a plant ID app and it says radish and buckwheat. I don't remember them in the mix but must have been. Still shocked no rye came up.

    Plant ID Help

I tilled broadcast, dragged, and packed soy beans mid may. Just in time for 6 weeks of no rain. That was a bust. So the last of June I planted a couple brands of rye food plot mix. It ended up being about 60 percent rye, 20 percent oats, and the rest a mix of peas, turnips and chicory...

Blurb from the Farm Bureau - Iowa land ownership

I have done it too. Currently have a 5yr note coming up in about a year. BUT, like others already mentioned I would only due this in specific strategic circumstances. The note will either be paid off or very close at the end of the 5 years and not put the property at any risk of needing to be...

How bad are autumn olive and honeysuckle?

I've killed all three with a backpack sprayer and spot spraying each "bush" with a mix of glyphosate and 2-4-D. Be careful because it kills everything else that gets spray on it too. Hence the hand application versus a boom sprayer. I'm a novice compared to many others on here, so it would...

How bad are autumn olive and honeysuckle?

Wage full on war now! I let a couple fields get away from me with Autumn Olive. I'm going to have to bring in a mulcher now. Honeysuckle is not quite as bad in my experience, but you might as well get rid of it at the same time. I have one 10 acre area that was about 20% covered with autumn...
