I carry extra powder and bullets in the truck and I take a few cleaning patches.
I always leave my knife and other gutting goodies in the truck. If I need 'em, I'll go get 'em.
My experiance is that the wind doesn't have much effect on the deer. Just play the wind for scent. And sometimes high winds help because your scent stays up higher longer as it passes over the terrain. I feel that wind seems to effect humans more than deer, they live in it all the time.
Don't get to upset. I have been hunting deer with a bow for 17 years, and a couple days ago I did the same with a buck. I'm having a litle trouble finding him. It's gonna happen no matter how good you are with your bow.
There have been a few mule deer around over the years I know a guy who shot a mule deer in SE Minnesota (Houston County) 25 years ago. And then it wasn't the only one around. He has the head mount in his house.
Shedder, are you looking at the same list. I see all kinds of celeb's from the hunting world, sports, country singer, etc. The isn't to many regular joe's on that list.
Don't give 'r up yet. Last year we found one 2 days after my Brother in law shot him. We noticed the crows were circleing and kept flying in and out of that one spot. Watch the little signs like that too. Good luck, Keep looking.
Your right Sask. I have said for years that it is 100% impossible to be 100% scent free. I use all the precautions. but I know alot of times it don't help. Just spraying alot is about the best that can be done. I always dress when I get out of the truck also. Don't know if helps. But can't hurt.
Tomo, Your thinking of the other deer, this is a different one from before. There are apparently 2 out a Ohio, the one from the other day and then this one. Apparently this ones not a Xbow
What ever the stat's say may be true. But I think that the hunting community should follow the celeb's and head for the SE part of the state. THEY MAY KNOW SOMETHING YOU DON"T.
It's real, I can happen to any kind of hoof aminal. You see it in cattle once in a while and in cattle that are kept on concrete more often. I never seen a deer in the wild with it, but have seen other pictures of them. And Yes this was posted on this site a couple of weeks ago.
I am pretty much on vaca from Oct 1 to Jan 10, but if I only had 2 days. I guess they would have to be around the 5th of November this year. However I could work it to get the most hunting days in a row with weekends.
I'll be in an hour before sunrise. Gives time for things to settle down before the deer move to the bedding areas. I usally hunt the first few days of season in the morning then back off mornings 'til rut. The first few days you usally go a good chance at a big boy before he starts to get...
Most of our land borders the state public land here. And I can tell you that you might as well get use to it. We have tried everything. And there seem to be nothing that works. I can't tell you how many we have escorted of the home place there. It doesn't however hurt to have a few trail cam...
