    Food plot progress

My brassica mix looked excellent 2 weeks ago. I haven't been to my farm since. Came down tonight excited to see the progress. The wind has been taken out of my sails. I have approximately 10 acres in the brassica mix and 10 in the cereal grain mix. Both top ground and 85+ csr bottom ground. The...

    How low will corn go?

Tread lightly. If u don't know exactly what u are doing, u can lose a lot of money. It is an extremely volatile market.

Current Land Prices in Wayne County Iowa

I turned down 3500 an acre last winter. My ground is 65% tillable 35% wooded. Most of my tillable is hill ground or good hay ground balance is bottom good tillable. I am about 7 miles from allerton. I probably should have taken it and ran but there just isn't much available for the size of farm...

    How low will corn go?

Actually canada, Mexico, and Asia are at the top. Europe isn't a large export destination anymore. I don't see it having an impact really

    Rainfall amounts

My brother in law introduced me to a website called climate.com. Before I was constantly calling a neighbor or the coop asking rainfall totals. This sight is great. And there is much more info on there as well. U plot the boundaries of your farm , individual fields, and timber areas. There are...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Is there any downside to plant cereal grain mix this weekend. With the chance of rain next week I thought I could get it in before. I know it has been recommended middle of august. Just hate to miss a chance of rain if it starts to dry out again.

    Turnips

As a first time planting, I have found deer don't feed on them much until it seems like there is nothing else left. Stick with them. The 2nd year they devour them. I have had same results on all of my farms I've owned. The first year good towards end of season the following years once the local...

    2015 rifle season?

I get depredation tags in Wayne county. The depredation officer sent me a letter last week stating that since there is no longer a rifle season in southern iowa I was no longer allowed to use a rifle for depredation tags. So there is definitely no longer a rifle season

    Coyote Dogs

1st off I have zero intentions of shooting a dog. I have hounds myself. It is obviously not the dogs problem. Like I said in an earlier post, if they would ask it wouldn't be an issue most of the time. I have 800+- acres so I'm not a small landowner. Also I know the deer I am seeing are also...

    Coyote Dogs

I've had words with the owners a few times. I've called the law. Both with no results beneficial to me. I've taken actions that are legal and will not get me in trouble. So the next step is to start shooting. Yes alleviates that problem, but then my property(tractors, implements, fences) start...

    Coyote Dogs

I thought the trap idea also. And I do during the fall and the coon hounds now stay off. I haven't checked regs for trapping seasons.

    Coyote Dogs

No they are not driving on it or tearing it up. I agree they are probably shooting from the road.

    Coyote Dogs

I don't mind the killing of coyotes and I certainly don't blame the dogs. It's the owners that have zero respect for the land owners. It is a free pass to trespass. If they asked it wouldn't be an issue. Maybe I'm crying over spilt milk then. They are hunting my ground without permission...

    Coyote Dogs

I have been having an issue with guys running dogs thru my farms. I called the local (Wayne Co) DNR officer and he pretty much told me there was nothing he could do about it. The dogs were considered private property that had wondered on to my land. The owners were lined up on the gravel road...
