NWBuck, Sligh1,
Here is a link on frosty berseem. Welters sells it as well. http://www.outsidepride.com/seed/clover-seed/berseem-clover-seeds.html
I usually get a frost in northern WI mid to late September and soybeans are cooked just as archery season opens. The frosty will still be green...
I learned about the frosty berseem clover variety this year and with my property in northern WI, I thought I would give it a try. It grew very well in my heavy soil and the deer love it! They are still pawing thru the snow to get at what's left and that is still green (Hasn't dropped below 15...
Thanks guys. It is in a wet area and has spread quite a bit from last year. Will give another shot of glyphosate and mix in some 2.4-D. Probably all I can do this year.
Out of curiosity, I planted some 5 year old sorghum seed on Memorial weekend at 5X the std rate that had about 20% seed viability after a germination test. Nothing grew.....although I really think it drowned.
Is your tractor 33 hp to the PTO? Tractors run less to the PTO. I had a Mahindra 3525 that was rated at 35 hp and 27 to the PTO. My 5' King Kutter specified a min of 26 hp to the PTO I believe. I don't think I would have had much luck with a 6 footer.
I upgraded last fall to a 41 hp Kioti...
Another thumbs up for King Kutter. Mine is a 5 footer and I've used it two years now (and my neighbors borrow it too). Its pounded a lot a cringe worthy rocks as well. Just take your time.
Planted mine on 7/13 in northern WI. Will have a frost there likely by the 3rd week of September, so I think I timed it pretty well. Will get my first look at it next weekend.
I also planted some kohlrabi with it as an experiment.
