    History of this site

I wasn't on as early as some but I joined in 2008 at the ripe age of 15. I learned ALOT from some guys way more successful than I'll ever be just from reading everything I could on here. I wouldn't be where I am now as a hunter without those early years on IW. Somewhere along the line I...

Sounds like he won't be able to put this fire out with his leaf blower either! :P

    Ghosts of deer seasons past?

Now that season has wrapped up for most of us, instead of tapping our fingers on the table waiting for October 1st 2023, I thought it'd be fun to see some pictures of bucks from years past that you never tagged and don't know what happened to them. Any one have bucks that you still think about...

    Land Market Hasnt Slowed down

This is it. Widow to an old farmer that's no longer around.

    Land Market Hasnt Slowed down

I wasn't even a twinkle in my father's eye yet in the 80s so my level of understanding of what went down is lacking, I'm sure. But to look at that chart, and see that today we are at the same levels of debt (higher in real estate) after adjusting for inflation, with rising rates.... spooky...

Random interesting pics from this year

Cool thread. Big buck pictures aren't the only thing that gets me excited. I love going back and looking at big buck pictures from years past and remembering the good and the bad with each buck. But going back and looking at these "different" pictures might be just as fun. Here are a few of...

TG pheasant miracle! Rebound of the endangered species!!!

Nice work! I think we've heard it all over the last 10 or so years about "Where did the pheasants go?!" I've heard it blamed on Roundup killing all the foxtails in fields, farming ditch to ditch, hard winters, bad nesting season, no waterways, not enough habitat, bobcats, blah blah blah...

    Starting to think cell cams….

Buddy of mine in Illinois got a picture of one this year mid day. One of those cold, windy days. Decided to not hunt that day because it was so miserable outside..... until he got the picture. Grabbed all his stuff, rushed outside, snuck into the area quietly and found the deer bedded and...

Late November Bow Buck- fun hunt!!

What a beast. 270# is a fatty if I've ever seen one. I agree with others above... bigger than 170" for sure. I was gonna guess 180". At least 20" of extra points there. Either way, great buck. Congrats!

    11/20/22 buck

Nice one! Congrats! I wouldn't be surprised if he went near 160. Really nice deer.

    Starting to think cell cams….

I've kinda had the same thought. If they had the money, there's nothing stopping a guy from having 2 cameras per acre on his 80 acre farm and literally watching the buck move through the property in real time. And the technology is only going to get better. Don't get me wrong, they are...

No longer seeing mature deer on farm, only 1-2 year olds

You 1000% need to shoot more does. 2 does is nothing on 180 acres. Listen to this video: Everything you're saying seems to support what Bill is saying in this video. The farmer letting everyone shoot anything they see kept the does in check. I curse the orange army when they kill young...

    All day sits

I've had two intended all day sits end early with a dead deer late morning.... 10:30-11:00ish. If that counts. Those two were Nov 10th and Nov 17th. Buck on the 10th I blind rattled and he came running in to 10 yards. It had been a couple hours since I'd seen a deer until then. The buck on...

    Jared Mills leaving Midwest Whitetail

I've watched MW for years and always enjoyed the show. THP and MW are the only guys I really watch somewhat regularly (gotta get a hunting fix somehow when you can't hunt yourself HA) MW guys were kinda the pioneers of the semi-live shows that we have now and it has been a valuable learning tool...

    Cheaper Cams to Replace Moultries

I've also had the issue of some of my older Moultries "snipping" the picture when you view on the computer. The easy fix is to 'select all', right click, select 'rotate right', then right click them again and select 'rotate left'. That will fix it and you can open and view them like normal...

    200 inchers?

Late to the conversation but I've really enjoyed this thread. Really fun topic to think about. The regulation rabbit holes related to what makes 200 inch deer producing areas was interesting discussion, as well as the cell cam topic. I would say for sure that there are many counties in Iowa...

Poll: how many would shoot a lion vs let it walk?

I wouldn't even think twice. Shoot. Don't need those things in Iowa. Pretty. Majestic. Whatever... we don't need them here. If you love deer, you shoot.

    Trailcam reliability and life

Funny how everyone's experiences with different brands are. I actually vowed to never by anything OTHER THAN a Mountrie 4 or 5 years ago. I'm currently running around 15 Moultries. The M880 (I think that's the model) was my favorite... absolutely zero complaints with them and wish I had 20...

Deer anatomy & recovery reminder pics/diagrams...

No good news. Followed blood for 4 hours Tuesday afternoon. Very slow going with mostly just drops to follow. No bright blood that I'm used to seeing from lung hits. No bubbles in anything. Never found an arrow, so maybe it was still in him but there's enough vegetation that we could've...

Deer anatomy & recovery reminder pics/diagrams...

And is 6 hours long enough to wait? 8 hours? Lots of rain rolling in tonight... not that there's a blood trail but it certainly won't help.
