I haven't seen this mentioned, but shape and size of fields are becoming more important as the size of ag equipment grows. 80 tillable acres in a square or rectangle, golden. 10-20 acre plots that follow the terrain or curvature of a timber/creek, not so good. As mentioned, finding the right...
Been reading about them bringing back the Dire Wolf through cloning and even the "creators" are saying that they really didn't bring them back, just some of the genetics made the journey.
Some time ago I read an article about African plains game introduced into Texas for rec hunting purposes. They have since gone on the endangered species list and thus they couldn't shoot the ones in Texas.... Not sure if that is completely true or not, but then what do you do? Trap and export...
Interesting article to read and think about. Makes me wonder if the trout I caught while fishing in a mountain lake in the Kootenai National Forest was an air drop. Should we be introducing species where that haven't traditionally been, fish or wildlife?
In the name of recreation
Brief story: I'm as frugal as they come. Even though I can afford things these days, I still pinch pennies. I've eaten beef heart, tongue and liver within the past month from a cow we raised. Wrestled the dog for it. "Donated" plasma a couple of years to have a hunting slush fund. I've...
I got a mailing from NaturalWaterscapes.com over the weekend. They sell leak fixes (not sure that is the way I'd go, I didn't get lucky fixing a pond that way). They also offer pond herbicides. Not saying to buy from them, but some reading at their website might stimulate some ideas and...
Most people are too busy "Keeping up with the Jone's". Get a raise or a higher paying job? "Upgrade" their "standard of living". It's a rat treadmill trap.
Last week I called about a sign that just was placed next to a property on a blacktop. Said 7 acres. Called the guy and should have saved us both the time and asked price up front. A building site would need a dozer in to clear trees. Wasn't fenced. It was a rectangular tract running along...
What would you use to knock back poison ivy on the bank of a pond realizing that rain might wash some into the water and you will be eating fish from it? I realize that I probably don't care to eat any herbicide, hopefully the runoff will be minimal and diluted.
Random thoughts:
Not a single fawn out of thousands of pictures. Guessing they are still in the "hide and stay put" mode right now.
Couple of cams had deer hitting licking branches. Don't know why I thought that was a fall behavior only. 99.9% sure they weren't eating leaves.
Couple of...
