These are great setups, I utilize several like this on my property. Also great for neighbors to come by honking and clear the field if needed for me :)

+1. If you wait until soil temps hit 60 F, will able to compete with weeds better. RC BR will shoot out of ground quickly..

Indian isn't the best screen IMO. Switch and Big Blue are both much better.. However, I enjoy the diversity for wildlife. Flattens with snow as others noted.

How thick is it? I'm with the others.. I'd mow and see how it does at greenup. If it was a good clover stand, you may be suprised..

Drill away Dave. It will sprout after the next rain. Will get a jump start on the weeds next spring as well. Spray and drill switch next spring and you’re set!

Mixed bag here. Some movement on windy days, also lots of not much. Seems like my neighbors bottom fields are best on windy days. My ridge field is a ghost town with 20+ mph winds. Morning or evening.

Can you expand your planting area? If not, I would go to a clover plot. Fencing off doesn't do anything to help the nutrition of the local herd. Clearly there is a void. Lastly, if you cannot plant more, may be time to take more deer.

September 21st, 2024 Developed into a good stand, happy with the results. Lots of good heads on here, despite the weed pressure. This 4 FT variety headed out over 5 FT easily, going to make the deer work for this food! Already getting a few nibbles in the section closest to the edge...
