All good points. Unfortunately I do see that other interest groups want to lower the herd sizes below what would be good for us outdoorsman/hunters. What I don't understand is why a good portion of us hunters continue to have the mind frame to eradicate as many does as possible? I understand...
Neat story and good pics. I think I have one where I hunt. I found a tree on top of the bluff completely torn up with claw marks. The tree looks like it has stair-stepped claw marks all the way to the top. Don't know what else it could be?
Sorry to hear about the rack, I hunt maquoketa but don't know too many people. I'll keep my ears and eyes open. From past experience, I would start with talking to the neighborhood kids, maybe offer a couple dollars if they hear anything.
Just went out to hang my last stand today and noticed the mineral licks I placed out roughly a month or more ago appear untouched, other than what appears to be naturally falling off from moisture. Is there a reason they aren't giving them attention? I know theres quite a bit of acorns around...
I don't post much, and I hate to admit it, but Typical makes it interesting! Me and the guys at work had bets about BANGBUCK, I won...(Yes, we're that bored)
I'm also a huge UFC fan. I usually watch them down in the Quad Cities at Buffalo Wild Wings, not sure if Des Moines has one but they probably do. I'm definitely rootin for Matt and Chuck. Two of my favorites. You might want to go early, eveywhere I've ever watched them gets filled up at...
I'll be working all weekend, unfortunately. I haven't been seeing much action lateley either. On the way in to work I saw a herd of about 20 deer, including a couple bucks about 300 yards from the highway. I think this weather has them moving. Not sure about the rest of the weekend!
It looks like you've definitely put some thought into this. I agree that some areas have been overhunted and some have not. Localized hunts I think are the answer. I am also a bowhunter, but I don't believe bowhunters have made anywhere near the impact as shotgunners, which I also hunt. A lot...
I can see where your coming from. Sounds like you've been after this same buck for a while and to have someone come out one time and put a slug in him has to be frustrating, unfortunately it wasn't your property. I let a friend hunt my property for a single doe, so he could have meat in the...
Just reading through this post guys, and I understand all sides. I really do. I mostly hunt bow season and am not happy to hear the news, but I shotgun also. I would rather see them re-open the season selectively, where the deer numbers selectively need reduced. I don't think it needs to be...
Sorry guys, can't figure out how to post them! If anyone can help I can e-mail them to you. Their not field pics, my buddy hasn't got them back to me yet!
Went out to my stand Saturday morning. I was sitting in my stand for roughly a half an hour when I saw my first deer. I watched a medium sized eight for several minutes before I decided to pass. At one point I had my sights on him and almost pulled the trigger. As soon as I let him go, I got...
Sofakingfast, not sure how far you are from Geneseo? But, you might want to try Webers. I've always had good luck with them and like just about everything they make. Their located in western illinois, not far from Quad Cities. I used to work in Illinois and their pretty popular over in that area.
livtahunt, I agree 100 percent. If anything, we need more DNR, it helps us that follows the rules. I also hunt and own land in Jackson county. When I purchased my property I was told that people in the area treat the valley as wide open and not privately owned, when I heard this I was more than...
Just bought a small chunk of land and am using a climber. I used to hunt public land and would take my climber with when I left, but now am letting it stay. Just curious on your thoughts about leaving the scent on the climber? The Buck I'm gunnin for seems to move every time I move my climber...
Thanks for the advice guys. In the two short years I've been bowhunting I have never seen anything at all comparable to this buck. It would definitely be the buck of a lifetime. Hopefully I'll have a picture to post in the next couple of weeks!
P.S. Any helpful hints on rattling bucks...
Thanks Mike, definitely will be out as much as possible. Just in awe at the size of him. Just itching for a clean shot at him, was out tonight and saw nothing but does. Heard a lot of grunts though. Wondering when he may reappear at that scrape?
Hi All, I'm a new member and thought I would pose a question to you all. This is my second year of bowhunting, and although I've learned a lot I still know I have a lot to learn. I was out last night on some awesome property when the biggest buck I have ever seen stepped out about 40 yards...
