Special Season Weather

Almost seems like the special season is doomed before it starts?

The weather forecast doesn't look much better then the first weekend:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Friday: Occasional drizzle, mainly before noon. Widespread dense fog, mainly before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 42. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Friday Night: Periods of drizzle, then a chance of rain after midnight. Areas of dense fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: A chance of rain and snow before noon, then snow likely. Some thunder is also possible. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Snow likely with areas of blowing snow. Cloudy, with a low around 17. Chance of precipitation is 60%.</div></div>

Hopefully after all the hoopla, people will kill some antlerless deer despite the weather /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I did a little scouting tonight on my way home from work. Deer are moving differently than they were Wednesday night /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif Looks as tho it could be to foggy to sit food plots tomorrow morning... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif I'll be there anyway /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'd bump back off a food plot and try to intercept them coming from the food to the bedding. With the crunchy snow still lingering around you'll blow all the deer outta there before you're even close to your stand.

My $0.02 opinion.

Its almost 6am, im on my way out. Looks like the fog has lifted a little. Im going to sit the travel lanes as you suggest. Wish me luck guys.

Maybe we could get an extension on the extension! Hey, if harvest #'s are low whats left to do? /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

The Farm Bureau Spokesman that I was reading last night said that the DNR would look at another season in January if the numbers don't add up to what is needed.

I would still like to see any left over tag turn into an antlerless tag at the end of the season, bow, shotgun, or black powder.

Hey, who the heck is callin' the shots now? Farm Bureau or DNR?

Gold Tip,

I think we know the answer to that one don't we? /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Remember we are paying the extra $1.00 for hush not farm bureau.

Hope you and your family have a great holiday.

I hunted over some clover and brassica today and didn't see crap. There were 30 deer in this field every night in September and October. I'm so lost its almost unbelievable.

The neighbors have 40 acres of picked corn and 40 acres of picked beans and didn't see squat on their field either. I think this smorgasboard of weird weather has them sitting tight. But who knows really...

As I was out hunting this afternoon, between the ice thawing off the Cedar tree I was under and the fog condensing on it, I was getting a shower. I sat there thinking how much of a challenge December has been. It all worked out in the end, with the results in the PMA section.

I'll be working all weekend, unfortunately. I haven't been seeing much action lateley either. On the way in to work I saw a herd of about 20 deer, including a couple bucks about 300 yards from the highway. I think this weather has them moving. Not sure about the rest of the weekend!

The bad weather seems to have held off but I haven't heard a single shot or seen any hunters in "my neck of the woods".

Good weekend to be using a blind of some sort that's for sure

Had a sit until noon today and didn't hear any shooting except for my dad who was about 200 yards away. The woods were so calm that we he shot I jumped so bad I about fell out of my stand (thank God for harnesses). I don't think too many people are taking part in this special season in my neck of the woods.

At the rate this is going with the extended seasons, I've been looking at Cablea's for blaze orange shed hunting vests.... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ghost from what I've gathered since hunting yesterday and today in Des Moines county I don't think this special season is getting the turnout like they expected, so that honestly wouldn't suprise me.

That actually might be a good small business idea for Iowa now that we're having these spur of the moment seasons. Start marketing some new special blaze orange shed hunting vests that magically improve your odds of finding that trophy shed. I'm betting it would be a hit! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The only deer I seen this morning was a small buck . Had my muzzy with me just in case . Heard only 4 shots in the public hunting behind my house . Don't think this extended season is helping much by me .

I only saw one other truck tonight, but was told the neighbor was in the woods with his grandson, but I'd suspect they're looking to shoot a buck rather than a doe.

We got a HUGE doe hit another (but lost the blood trail due to rain) and I missed two and so did my bro. All in the same herd. We put the sneak on them and they were having a hard time telling where the shots were coming from...even had one running at us as we we're field-dressin the one I dropped. It was a really fun (really wet) 30 minute stalk and 5 minute SHOOT. My bro got 6 shots and I took five. We both shot at three different deer.

Still have 6 tags left to fill and we have some good prospects on where to locate another herd or two.

Donated my deer to HUSH and when I was at the locker there were 7 other does laying there from today.
