    Latest Wired to Hunt Podcast

It has been sweeping through the hunting/conservation/outdoor recreation side of social media for about a week or so now. A republican from Utah threw it into the bill in the middle of the night in hopes of it passing. I'm very much against the selling of public land.

What was your very first foodplot experience?

Maybe 1/10th of an acre. It was brome when I started and I used my parent's string weed eater to try and "mow" it. Hit it with a little roundup. Paid way too much for a bag of who knows what seed from a guy that had leftovers, and threw it out. The only thing that grew was some rye but it was...

    Thistles in clover/brassicas

We have a half clover half brassica field that we rotate back and forth each year. The brassica portion from last year has a bunch of thistles in it and they are large. What is our best plan of attack at the moment with those? Spray? (And if so, we have gly and 2-4d - what would the...

Things that make me go Hmmmmm....Land Prices

It looks like roughly 5% of Iowa households make over $230k/year and the average annual salary in Iowa is right about $50k. When you take the number of hunters who are in that top 5% of households you're talking about a very few number of people who can make that equation work. I get the 'work...

    Brassicas

We had a .6 acre brassica plot last year that has been taken over by thistles this spring. We have gly and 2-4,d on hand. Will either of those or a mixture of both kill them? Sent from my Pixel 6a using Tapatalk

    Tagged out

Opening day of 4th season found me at the "turkey killin' tree" in some big timber that we've named for good reason. It was a beautiful morning with birds hammering but nothing within 300 yards or so. They were fired up but nothing seemed to be getting closer so I was contemplating getting up...

    Gobbling Rhyme or Reason

Calm, cool, clear seems to be a good morning. They were hammering for me this morning though.

    Deer mount costs?

I have five shoulder mounts and I already wrestle with leaving a "bunch" of mounts for family to deal with after I'm gone. Even on good deer I go back and forth on shoulder mounts but at $1000 a pop I think it's going to be euros unless it's a giant.

    Dirt nap at 12 steps

I went Friday and had a pretty good hunt and got within 100 yards on two different occasions but a ditch on the first one and a creek with high water on the second had the birds hung up. I got a call Thursday night from a buddy and he asked if I wanted to hunt with him on Saturday so I took him...

    New respect for turkeys

I pick turkeys as well. I really enjoy the interactive aspect of turkey hunting. Deer hunting has become such a competition and some people get way too butt hurt over it. A tom is a tom whether he's 2 or 12 years old or if he has a 9 or 11 inch beard.

    TSI chainsaw????

I have a stihl ms180 as well and like it so far. I have only used it a few times and I'm not tackling large projects but it has served it's purpose well for me.

    The Talk

Removing the emotion and your "wants" from the equation is often difficult but I echo everyone else. We don't know how big these properties are but removing one 1.5-2.5 year old buck each year isn't going to hurt a thing age class and genetics wise. In my opinion, let him shoot whatever makes...
