    New Hunting gear

I like my artic shield clothing Jason. Hunted in the coldest (& windy) weather of a few years ago and had had 2 layers of thermals on and had to be careful not to sweat too much walking in. Just watch what level of clothing you buy, some made for light weather and others for the coldest.

    Zero interest in our plots

The first year they were alittle slow hitting the brassica's but now they pound them after the first frost and they don't last long. Same mix.

    Rut cruisers

This is the 1st year that I didn't have any new bucks show up during the rut, either observed or on my cameras. My deer population is way down this year, they are all on the river bank being coyote food.

Two Men Charged With Hunting Violations

They were sneaking into my buddy's land across the road from where they had like 12 acres to hunt, mostly hay ground. The medics told me that it really bled when they pulled the arrow out, hadn't they seen any old westerns, never pull it out. Wonder what type of broadhead they used?

    Meandering river rules

I looked this up and there are very few meandered rivers in Iowa. The Missouri, Mississippi, parts of the Des Moines, a few miles of the Raccoon by Des Moines and few sections of the rivers out in Eastern Iowa (I'm in Western Iowa). There is a map of them if you google them. Otherwise you...

    He is back for more

I have thought about that, I tried to slip behind the rib cage but caught on it anyway. I heard it hit and it sounded like a watermelon bursting and I thought I had him. Arrow had blood up 8" or so but not alot. He bled like crazy for the first 100 yards, just like the ad says: painted the...

    He is back for more

7.5 is what I would do if I had enough acres and lived in my perfect world, would really like to see how much more stickers and mass he would put on. He was alittle smaller last year but had more junk, it was a rash decison to shoot last year when he suprised me at 20 yards. Over the years I...

    He is back for more

Here is a picture of a buck I shot and wounded last year; you can see where the broadhead (rage) slid along his rib cage behind his front leg, the angle was too sharp. Hope to do better this year. He is 5.5 years old this year, would like to let him go to 7.5 but I don't have enough acres to...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Dbltree I sometimes rotate between brassica and soybeans in some of my fields instead of the rye/clover mix, you see any problem with this? I always have some white clover somewhere nearby but I really like fields of brassica and soybeans side by side during the rut and then in shotgun...

    $150 CRP Bonus

I get $150/acre and I also got a $100/acre signup bonus on my 75 acres. They cost shared on 90% of the seed and planting costs and I planted it myself with the county conservation drill.

    Milo

I have put it in for several years but once the head turns the deer and birds eat it all in no time, usually by mid Oct. Got mine from welters.
