    Let's talk about the moon

Pretty sure that October moon this year is a blood moon. Never have put a lot of stock in the moon cycle but I like the activity during the week leading into Halloween. I think rut trumps the moon thing come November. Historically, that first full week after November 5th is a great week up north.

    Perplexed!?

Early Season a/m Ot-12 was the exception for sure with very early corn harvest. I'm with the evening only school of thought on early season feeding patterns. Blow'm out of the fields one time in the a/m and your stand is toast. Those bucks bed much earlier at that time as well so the...

    Same Deer?

Good work Shed. I concur with your observation.

    public land managment

I feel your pain, brother. Ate $405 worth of Minnesota bear and deer tags myself this past fall. But I had some super hunts, met some cool people and have great memories. I'll be back. Had bear on the bait 4 of 5 evenings up north and had deer in my wheelhouse all but one morning in SW MN...

Not a good start to the new year!

Best wishes for you in your re-hab and school young man. That is awful scary stuff. Hell, I tripped coming out of my groundblind door and did a near face-plant in the snow! Banged up my pride and had cockleburs all over me! There is no way I'm in a tree this time of year.

Illinios deer herd down the drain!

Good post. I'm with you guys; and, like goatman, I've been doing this awhile, since '73 anyway. It is a much changed and different world than back then. We bowhunted to get away from the politicians and all the crap while policing ourselves. Now,it seems, we all have to take a bite out of the...

My life on a tee shirt

CUBS- Completely Useless By September. I don't see that changing...not even with that General Manager of theirs. The curse of the goat lives on!

    Got one!

Never been one for the "Miley Cyrus" tongue action in photos but I do like the character of that rack! Very good symmetry. I don't believe he's got the length to get to 50 but he appears to have enough mass with those points and inside spread to hit high 30's or scratch 140. I like him. Let us know.

    this never gets old!

Way to close it out. Good stuff.

    Late Season Tips?

All above is good stuff. Evenings only, get out early, on food, in groundblind to keep the wind/elements off. I do have an optional thrown together brush/grass groundblind in a thicket along the fenceline for warmer evenings. I wear snow camo and fresh earth cover scent. I have had luck in the...

Charles City Hunter Hit By Slug

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it baffles me how an American citizen can just roll over, lick their b*lls and cry for more gov't regulation in a situation like this. I respect your God-given right to an opinion; however, this was an accident... an unfortunate incident that always seems to...

Mornings or evening: the second half

Historically, when I still have a tag to fill in November, like this year (that discussion is off the table) I have had most success between 10 a/m and 3p/m although I have had action throughout the day. I suppose it really depends on your set-up.

    Outstanding. Congrats.

    Tall 10. Score?

I don't think he has the mass to make 160. Got good main beams, a good inside spread and minor deductions. My guess is mid to upper 140's. Hope you stick'm!
