An article about NR quota increases

You are dead-on right teeroy. It's done wonders in a couple of other states I am familiar with. It takes time, so maybe you guys can get it done eventually. Would make things better fopr eveyone involved DNR, residents and non-residents alike.

    Out of State Turkey Trips

Well, ya'll wish me luck. We are sending in our turkey applications for Wyoming on Monday. My buddy from Council Bluffs has an uncle who lives in Wy and he has locked down some private land for us to hunt up near Sheridan, WY (not that I have a clue where the heck that is). I have another...

    its getting worse

Amen River Bttm Boy - Thats the reason I can never afford to come to Iowa deer hunting - I'm always scheming and pontificating on what I need and where I can go for the spring turkey season. teeroy - thats excellent "library" material if ya know what I mean.

    Out of State Turkey Trips

Good Luck Sureshot1 - I have a few friends from down here that hunt AL and they generally do well. It's loaded iwth turkeys. Be little different then your used to in Iowa though. Most of the SE has big expanses of woodlands. The place I kill most of my turkeys here in is about 60,000 of...

    Out of State Turkey Trips

Great looking pictures Jethro. Congrats on a real trophy. Defenitely looks like a place I would like to "set-down" to a gobbling merriam. Bleow are some pics of my Rio for m Texas. I had visions of my hunt prior to going, but it was nothing like I had heard of or thought it would be - this...

    Out of State Turkey Trips

Muddy - The place I really enjoyed was North Dakota. We went on and Indian Reservation (which is the only way a NR can hutn ND) and it only cost $88.00 and that fee allows you (2) gobblers. The hunts I am considering this year in South Dakota and Wyoming combined won't be as much as one turkey...

    Yet another food plot question????

Size of the plots will be important. Plots located within wooded areas don't usually get the sunlight that plots in the open do. If ample sunlight is going to be a problem there are several varieties of clover that are pretty shade tolerant, just not sure if they are suited to those latitudes...

    Out of State Turkey Trips

Just curious as to what other state some of you have pursued turkeys in? I have been fortunate enough to hunt and harvest turkeys in: Iowa, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Dakota and Texas. I am looking at a possible trip to do a combo hunt on public land in South Dakota and Wyoming this...

A lot of truth in this one... IMO

Although it does indeed paint a scary picture - it is probably intended to do just that. It's a wake-up call for all of us. I personally don't agree with his "prediction" and don't see it happening - not in my lifetime or my childrens' lifetime for that matter. There is certainly some...

    IA Residents/Legislature

I agree Patrick, but the lifetime licesnse would have nothing to do with a non-resident (unless of course a resident purchase one and then moved out of state sometime thereafter). The lifetime license would be available strictly for residents only. I just looked up MS's lifetime license and...

    IA Residents/Legislature

I just wanted to throw something out here that you may want to consider when you make that call or pen that letter to your state representative or for that matter it may just be a good topic for discussion on this site. Here in MS we have what is called a "MS Lifetime License". When...

    Turkey guns

The gun I use is a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag - one of the original laminate wooden stock guns. I won it at a DU banquet in 1991. I used to use it duck and goose hunting - used it for a boat paddle, hammer - you name it. But about 8 years ago I purchased a Kick's Gobbling Thunder custom choke tube...

    Need something to hunt?

We do the same thing here in MS Bowman. Great way to get from the ending of deer season to the when the turkeys start gobbling. Keeps you from having to go through all the usual withdrawl symptoms, cabin fever, divorce threats from annoyed spouses and all the "you need help" comments from...

    Fellow Sportsman

OneCam - I imagine my previous (NR's)post is the cause of your post and I must tell you I can only echo what's already been said - your honesty, intergrity and dedication to this site are very much appreciated. After I made the post I just referred to, I wondered if I wasn't really the one who...

    NR's

I am gonna go out on a limb here at the risk of being stoned. I am not a resident of Iowa, but keep in mind I grew up there and lived there for 22 years, still have family and friends who live and hunt there and I still come there to hunt when I can afford it. To be brutally honest with you...

    One Shot One Kill

Hey 20 guage - congrats. But don't feel bad about being a little sad - if ya did'nt feel that way, then I'd be worried. I think all of us as hunters feel a mixed bag of emotions each time we harvest an animal. I know I do and I've been hunting for 30+ years. I guess if we did'nt care so much...
