203... Thank you. I have truly enjoyed serving our country. It has been a very rewarding career despite the sacrifices my family has had to make.
We have bad blue tongue kill off a lot of deer in WA over the years but it usually happens in the lower lying areas near the agriculture. The...
Good point.. I will say that one thing that is nice about hunting the public land is that I rarely have to worry about a buck crossing a fence or going into areas that I can't hunt.
That is exactly what we experience in WA... that 180-200 is a whole other level of big. I have never seen a 200 from the stand (just in my trail cam pics).. but my wife did see that biggest buck.. he grossed 205 and netted in the 190's
Thank you for supporting us.
WA is certainly not a bad place to be (east side). The summers are beautiful, ticks aren't bad, lots of wildlife, not many snakes in the mountains... makes it a nice place to hike through the woods in a great time of year.... Lots of water if you are into fishing...
I really enjoyed the people/hunters I met in IA. And I have really appreciated the large amount of feedback and opinions based on a diverse variety of experiences that I have received on this thread. This is exactly the type of discussion I needed to help me decide on a place to plant my roots...
Thank you. This sounds very similar to WA. To narrow the gap..the 180-200 range is another level and they are much harder to find but I can usually expect to find one every 2-3 years in WA..... with the 160-180 range being yearly.... again... just like anywhere they are hard to kill.. so getting...
Thank you... What you are describing is exactly the time and effort I would expect to put into this pursuit. I have saved for this day for years and between that, my pension, whatever work I decide to do for fun (which must be flexible), and my wife's career in healthcare I will have this kind...
Like I mentioned... the wife and I really like IA... and would prefer to live there .... but we don't want to move there if the overall whitetail hunting is far better in WA.. (there are certainly far more 200+ in IA...of that I have no doubt).. but I know those are rare anywhere which is why I...
I know what you mean. Believe it or not... I am simply crazy about whitetail. Even with all of those other species I generally only stand by and enjoy them. I have 180+ Mule Deer and 360+ elk that I have not hunted because I am so focused on some big whitetail.
There is some great Elk...
It is cool to sit in a tree and see mule deer, elk, moose, wolves, whitetail, all from the same spot.... the mountain lions are around but I have never seen one from the tree... but I have had them on camera.
Switchback XT... best bow I have ever had.... very forgiving....I miss mine.
I currently have a Monster and have a 0-30 pin.... I don't shoot it as well as my Switchback but I do think the speed has helped me on a couple of kills when I would have shot under the deer with the XT.
Thanks for that info. While I would be in a position to pay $30 per acre for ground I simply couldn't bring myself to do that. I'm ok with paying the market rate of the average middle class guy (and I support landowners making a living any way they legally can off their property) but no way do...
140 is certainly a great deer. I consider any mature buck to be a true trophy and honestly.. a hunter being happy with his kill is what I believe matters most.
I do believe I would be hunting primarily on public (and knocking on doors here and there)... I would probably cover as much public...
In WA you can find a good amount of areas with a mix of Agriculture... I have just found the buck/doe ratio and age class to be better in the big woods where they aren't as exposed to firearm pressure.
