    preserving velvet

You should talk to a taxidermist. The velvet needs to be freeze dried soon or it will rot.

I think it is amazing that people would put in for a $500 tag and not have a plan as to where they are going to hunt or what to do when they get here.I would suggest making a trip this summer to do some footwork.Bang on a coupe hundred doors or scout some public land. There hundreds of outfitters...

News from the DNR meeting today on allowing tracking dogs.

I have to wonder what the cost would be to call out a handler and his dog to find a deer. With all the accreditation and training "Bonker is talking about it might be a lot of money.I thought the bill/law would allow a hunter to take his lab out to see if it could help find a lost deer.Or call up...

    Help with Scope!

i must be wrong in my thinking.I always heard that the concussion from a ML is different than that of a rifle or shotgun and would ruin the recticles if a rifle scope was used on a ML.Learn something new every day.But I don't own a rifle or ML so I would have no reason for knowing.

    NR Results Posted Early

The people that get govenor's tags are never know to the public.Or even how many there are.I have asked several times. But just a bit of info.Stan Potts,Bill Jordan,Michael Waddel,Jackie Bushman and Brad Farris didn't draw tags either so you know where those tags will be going.

    Score him:

My best guess is that he is upper 150's -low 160's now.If you are trying to decide if he is a shooter or not your standards are much higher than mine.It looks like the left beam is about to split into a G4.With another full month of growth I would say he ends up around 170

    Shoulder Surgery :-(

If I am not mistaking..that is the same surgery Brett Farve had and he was back playing football in 4 months. With that being said.I wouldn't try to push it this fall.I am sure you could get a license to shoot a crossbow for 1 season.I would hate to see anyone risk further damage to save 1...

    NON-TYP Update (card pull)

If that buck walked in range with a 190'' typical I would shoot it before the 190''er

Do you think he will be a shooter?

Is he a shooter? That depends on who the shooter is.If you have a man cave full of 160''+ buck then it might not be a shooter. If you have never shot a P&Y buck then it absolutely is a shooter. To many hunters think they need to shoot a buck that their buddys will be impressed with when a lot less...

    Estimate

The pic was from the end of June.A bucks rack will put on an inch a day in July.If the beams split into a G4 like it looks like they are starting I will guess he makes 165 or better by the time he is done.

I am in S/e Iowa and as far as Davis,Van Buren or Apanoose counties go.You will have a hard time finding private lant to hunt without digging into your wallet deep. There is a lot of great public land to hunt though.

My suggestion would be to rent a cabin on the Mississippi..A lot of those places are really quiet during the week.

    Deer attack

Maybe the dog owner will keep his dog tied up or in a kennel like its supposed to be.Thats if it lives. LOL.I agree with Liv..I wonder how many times the doe had chased the dog off before the video started.I can only imagine the does terror with a cat all over her fawn from one side and a dog...

    Deer attack

Are you serious? If that was a coyote and a bobcat would you feel any different about how that doe was protecting her fawn?I will never feel bad about blasting stray cats and dogs again in the woods.
