    Removing electric fence timing ?

This is a small farm surrounded mostly by CRP so not huge food sources around. It’s about 2.5 acres of brassicas with another 2.5 if clover around it. Would like for the food to make it to late season so might wait a couple more weeks

    Removing electric fence timing ?

At what point are you removing your electric fence? Specifically on brassicas? I have some pretty good growth now about a foot tall.

Tell me why we should shoot more does

I believe I have heard Winke say he wouldn’t shoot as many does again. Do to how susceptible it made his farm to being wiped out completely by EHD like it it did in 2012

Tell me why we should shoot more does

And in most cases the habitat could be improved to fix that as opposed to killing more deer

Tell me why we should shoot more does

I’ve been thinking about doe harvest a lot recently. To me it’s not making sense shooting does for “management” I get if we were heavy CWD state in Iowa, but I feel Iowa does not need to be harvesting massive amounts of does. Especially late season. I hear all the time people saying “deer...

Food plots are done for the year!

Had my biggest year of food plots! Planted roughly 30 acres of plots over my 2 farms, along with 30 acres of CRP. Lots of clover/corn/beans/brassicas. Tried about every method there is for planting and learned a lot. May spread some rye in thin spots of beans and brassicas but I’d consider...

    Here we go again EHD????

Found 2 bucks this week. The last one has looked healthy on camera consistently all summer and just found dead. Getting it tested by DNR biologists thought maybe we’d be okay this year with all the moisture.

    Interseeding clover into corn???

I almost bought an old Van brunt drill to take rows off just for driving over rows just like that. This plot is just about 6 acres of corn so I will probably just broadcast it in this year to test it out when I hit the corn with nitrogen. The Massey has been my best purchase! Big enough for...

    Interseeding clover into corn???

My neighbor is getting a drone for commercial spraying so I’m hoping that can be useful in the future…. Might try it on 60 inch rows too

    Interseeding clover into corn???

Finished up my corn plot today! Just wondering if anyone here has interseeded annual clover when the corn reaches V4- V6. Any tips or suggestions for success?

My little project this year. 500 acre farm with zero deer

It ran pretty well as it was but I’m going to cut back tillage pretty heavily after this year so I’m going to add weight inside the tool bar and probably put some pesticide boxes on it with sand bags to do no til

My little project this year. 500 acre farm with zero deer

Figured I haven’t updated in awhile. Things are in full swing at the project farm. Clover has all been drilled in and last years is looking fantastic. Luckily had time to get all my corn and beans in last week before all the big rain. Just today we started planting some hybrid chestnut trees...

Went for a little walk today and found evidence of the past occupants. Nothing like elk sheds in Iowa

    Grain drills

I have a RTP 5 lite version and I use it on my 47hp Kobota and its only issue is lifting it. The 3pt lifts it but the tractor is just a little on the light side and definitely feels it, but when the the drill is in the ground there is no issue to speak of.

My little project this year. 500 acre farm with zero deer

The antlers are falling on the project farm. Still lots of pics with bucks holding still. But not bad for the first day out. All in standing beans
