    Otter problems?

Yep, they will ransack a pond in short order. Like, plentiful fish to zero in days. My wife and I never pass up an opportunity to say "FTO.... F%&K them Otters".... lol. For context..... this is a WILD listen:

I had a big reply typed up last week but I saw the Barn Talk guys had Lahn on their show so I waited for them to release it so I could post it here for for everyone, but also in response to you as I think you should listen to him yourself because you're painting him in a way that isn't...

Could you fill me on on examples of his ignorance/naivety to modern ag? He farms himself. Small farm, but he does farm. So he's not completely removed from or clueless of the industry. He rags on the chemical industry hard but not unfairly, IMO. ChemChina (Chinese state owned) owning one of the...

Sorry but I think Sands is a snake in the grass and I'll be steering clear. He's done a better job of making himself look like "one of the fellas" than Walz did with his bird hunting videos, I'll give him that. But being an outdoorsman like me isn't enough to make me vote for him when he still...

No-till, cover crops, manure if you can get it. It doesn't happen overnight and will require a commitment on your part.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

As an example of how tight a grip these things have on people..... Stealth Cam started their Black Friday sale this week. I have a few of their cameras that I really like so thought I would order a couple more to replace the inevitable camera or two that gasps its last breath every year. Only...

Poll: How’s Hunting this year vs past seasons? Short & long term choices

Yes, very much so on the antler growth. I have at least 3 bucks that I had my eyes on last year as either for sure shooters last year or close and needing one more year. Confirmed they made it through season, found sheds, etc. Super encouraging considering there was EHD issues last year. I was...

    Taxidermy wait time.

2 years is ridiculous. I'd go get it, done or not. The guy I go to - if I've started turkey hunting the following spring before he's done, that's on the slow side for him. Helps getting in before all the gun season deer of course. I believe he has a couple sons that help out too though. A year...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

I'm loving what I'm seeing in this thread. I HATE cell cameras. If I could snap my fingers and get rid of them, I would in a heartbeat. I think it's great many here seem to be aligned with me on that issue. I just hope when the rubber meets road, people stand by these sentiments. Talk is cheap...

    New respect for turkeys

Turkey hunting is super fun but not gonna touch deer for me. I had a turkey hunt a couple years ago end abruptly after I stumbled upon a nice shed.... getting in position for that fired up gobbler went out the window and a shed hunt began immediately (I did find the match!) While walking...

    Hounds

Good dogs bred to do a job are obsessed with doing that job... Border Collies and livestock, beagles and rabbits, Blueticks and coons, etc. etc. they've been trained to do a job and they love that job. When they get the opportunity to do that job, they're focused. That doesn't mean there aren't...

New Podcast: BAD IA BILLS, EHD, CWD, etc

Thanks! 1000% agree on the coon damage. Those big wallowed out spots in corn fields get blamed on "those damned deer" all the time. That's coons and I can't be convinced otherwise.

New Podcast: BAD IA BILLS, EHD, CWD, etc

Enjoyed it. @Sligh1 could you send me the study on crop damage $$$ per acre you reference at about the 53:00 minute mark?

    ice fishing reports

Buddies and I had some decent luck at Don Williams north of Ogden over the weekend. Mostly small bluegill but pulled out a couple really nice crappie. Ice was surprisingly thin in some areas... 4 inches if I'm generous so still need to be aware and temps at the end of the week could make things...

    Deer #’s down statewide???

How accurate does everyone feel these numbers are for them in their area? I saw this count in the paper earlier this fall and to be honest my first response was "ha, BS". I looked through my trail camera pictures on my best farm and if I assume a 1:1 buck to doe AND count the bucks that made one...

    Deer #’s down statewide???

Damn. That sucks. I hope I'm wrong but I'm guessing I'll be finding his carcass in feb-mar. That is if he's not dead in the bed I left him in on the 25th. Been tough finding mature deer the last couple years and this won't help in 2025. Kinda tired of struggling to find even 1 deer across...

    Deer #’s down statewide???

How late into the year have you guys seen EHD symptoms or deaths? How fast have you seen symptoms arise? I have a 3 year old that I've become well acquainted with the last two years that I've been beyond excited for. I saw him on the 23rd... perfectly fine. Out cruising, doing normal buck...
