    Any cuddeback experts on here?

We have several cell plans between hunting partners, and we have each of these plans send to both of our emails. We do this with multiple different people. Almost daily one of us will receive a photo and the other never gets it. Definitely some issue there, and suspect misses many potential...

    Switchgrass for access

I’d bet nighttime beds - almost impossible to tell though, without actually seeing them with a drone or something. We don’t see much day time bedding within the switch fields here - they always seem to prefer areas with above head cover - timber / thickets. I’m sure they would if there was...

    Rut Report

7yo daylighted for the first time today that wasn’t within minutes of dark - panting working a scrape at 8:30. Hopefully his last night is tonight! Drove the south central part of the state through the timbered area the entire way yesterday - easily seen 30-50 bucks on does. 2 super mature...

    Need some advice

Hopefully that means 12” approximately inside the deer - guessing you got both lungs with that penetration - pending exactly the height you hit him!! Hope burried offside shoulder! Good luck!!!!

Thoughts on deer prospects this year?

We are in a similar boat. 50+ cameras ran over a good portion of south central Iowa for the last 5-7 years very consistently. Over that timeframe and across 10+ different farms as well as public, we have had anywhere from 5-10+ mature bucks to chase. Two years ago we had 5 that EASILY would have...

    Dogs Dogs Dogs

Contact the sheriff and ask him to make it a priority. Our local sheriff did just this a few years ago, and now we have an ordinance in place due to his pulling for it. I believe it’s warning, $750 first offense, $1,000 second offense. To most of these “useless” dog owners that just let the...

    Advice on killing poison ivy…

They’ll eat anything they can reach. Especially great on MFR - we did a few patches years ago. Worked great. I think we had like 7 goats on and acre. Worked fast!

    Drone spraying herbicides…is that done?

It works great from what we can tell - in very early stages. Doing 90 acres of honeysuckle / autumn olive this fall as a true test. I will update this thread as we know more. Very short window is the only drawback we see. Maybe $75-$100 acre cost to landowner, herbicide included. Sure beats a...

    Hanging deer

I believe you can increase tenderness almost certainly by hanging for an extended period of time. Weather is the biggest factor if you don’t have access to a walk in cooler, however I’ve been able to time the weather the last few years to catch a week or more of good hanging temps. A good steak...

    Planting sunflowers

I believe so - I’ve been munching on a few, haha! Just peridovic sunflowers. The wife had the thought to try and roast some! Will report in if we try it.

New Farm, New Plots, New Habitat

Be just fine, as long as you don't have a herbicide with residual - Gly, ams, crop oil will be your best bet.

    Planting sunflowers

What mowing schedule do you guys use in relation to dove season? I mowed a very small section today just to open some ground. Love of dove activity already in recent weeks, and they haven’t fully dried out yet, more at the yellow/green stage.

    Planting sunflowers

Almost no deer browse pressure on these - low deer density area, and away from cover as well. 2 acres was also probably enough that I would’ve been hard pressed to see any pressure.

    Planting sunflowers

July 16. Planted May 18. Beginning to flower as we speak. High population, still appears to have produced nice size heads.
