Well, I scheduled a business trip for a week in NE Missouri last month. Unfortunately, I booked three days to scout zone 5 Fri-today Sunday. Hot, hot & hotter. Multiple foot ailments & heart failure took a toll on me but tried my best. I’m guessing nobody else wasted their time this weekend...
The xgun was and continues to be a real scourge for hunter traffic on Illinois public. Indiana’s public is a complete lost cause. Definitely want to keep it out of Iowa that’s for sure. You’ve got the most to lose of any Midwest state. I just laugh when some dope says “It didn’t make any...
I’ve been going out West for 25 years from Indiana & Illinois. Taken six P&Y bulls 320”-350”. You don’t need a guide in most places. Just research to get in a decent unit. Search unit aerials for North facing slopes and water sources, streams & cattle tanks. Get some tips on hunting forums...
I do have 4 Iowa points, but got a good public spot in IL until the NR’s find it. I’ll save them until needed. It’s more I admire you guys being the last man standing up against Ravin and somehow beating them away. Nobody else has done it. Bravo.

Had to do something after reading demented thread after thread on my other bowhunting forums in support of crossguns and other bad deer management philosophies. Couldn’t take it anymore. This despite the fact I live in Indiana and primarily hunt Illinois where I have a LL.
I support the work...
Crossguns were a game changer here in Indiana. It’s been 8 seasons now and there are no longer mature bucks to be seen on my September public land scouting trips. October is flooded with crossguns these days. Still after 8 years the number of gun hunters on public decreases each year, while the...
Based on my 30 years of hunting public, and in the last ten watching crossgun transitions in both Indiana & Illinois, the biggest impact is the sheer number of gun hunters gradually converting over filling especially the early seasons with people and degrading both the hunt and the buck quality...
Was only a matter of time. And as others have said, this is just a foot in the door. Deer management should be left up to the DNR, not greased politicians & special interest group lobbyists!
Nine years of crossguns has totally ruined what was left of buck quality on Indians public land. And...
The same here in Indiana and is happening in Illinois. Crossgun poison has put hunting pressure on public through the roof. It’s gun hunters buying xguns. Especially early season through the rut. Both these states are now setting all time “archery” harvest highs, at the steep cost of buck...
I read this was the same case in Kansas back when their NR quota was basically eliminated. One lame duck legislator sponsored that bill prior to leaving office and entering the outfitting business on his family land. Strictly working in his own self interest.

Best of luck. I moved from one sold out state (IL) to another (IN) last year. Both sold out to crossguns and IL sold out it’s NR tags ten years ago. As expected, public land quality has dropped like a rock over these years. Early season pressure is out of control with former gun hunters...
No luck for me but did get great news in the form of an email from Oregon. Their computer made an error. I drew the 2nd best elk tag in the state. Only one NR unguided tag.

You should meet plenty of your neighbors there. Last time I drew in 2017 there was no shortage. I have hunted zone 5 public five or six times since 1990 as a NR. Scouted more than that. I highly recommend scouting if you have not done so. You would really be shorting yourself. The DNR closed...
So last month my company expanded my work area to include the entire state of Iowa. I live in Indiana. I’ve been scouting & hunting zone 5 public for 25 years, but with the hunting pubs pushing zones 4&5, I see the points required going up significantly soon. And with the $50 point fee and...
Wow. Just got a curve ball. Had my USPS work area shift west for at least the next three years to include the entire state of Iowa! And none in Indiana. And they took away from me anything within city limits of Chicago & Milwaukee. But kept all suburbs. So got more driving but safer areas...

Do you Iowa residents really have to pay an 8.98% state income tax as indicated in this article??? Or is this just a bad typo?
I did confirm my new rate in Indiana is 3.23%.
I've heard far too many bad stories about overcrowding on WI public. I love the cheap turkey hunting there on leftover tags, but all the toms are very heavily pressured and run like hell from blinds/dekes so that's another indicator. Love Iowa for no guns in November & real nonresident tag...
