So my daughter and I have been glassing deer from the road down my street looking out over a hay field that has anywhere from 10 to 35 deer in it. Hey, shes 6 and its a good math exercise for her, plus I get to hunt this field this year, so I am trying to learn the deers patterns.
Well on the other side of the road a guy has a dog. Last night around 6:50pm, the dog starts barking, and I tell my daughter "watch the road, in a few minutes some deer are going to cross". Sure enough, 5 does cross the road about 45 seconds later, not running, just nice slow walk. A couple of minutes goes by and I spot 4 more cross the road. No dog barking tho. Then a few minutes go by and the guy goes by walking his dog.. Ah that explained why the dog didn't bark for the second time.
It was a very cool opportunity for my daughter to see the deer very close up, and for me to see a pattern in how they are moving down from the woods in the residential areas to the fields at night. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Could give a guy a heads up. It also shows how the guy walking his dog can alter their pattern. On nights where he walks the dog at a different time , he kicks up the deer and they enter the field about 500 yards to the east.
