1st season sightings...

We killed 20 opening day... 14 in one drive.... 24 over 2 days.. Not really seeing anything different in population, except for maybe a surplus in deer numbers because of last years standing corn. I've shotgun hunted for 13 years and our opening day success almost doubled... I've also seen a lot more deer this year bowhunting than I ever have and I only bowhunt 10 acres, 3 of those are my yard.

It's been a pretty slow year. It is way different then what it was about five or six years ago. In southern Mahaska Co. from where we hunt numbers appear to be down.

Although it was an unproductive year for my group, as far as deer on the ground, we saw more than normal. Just wasnt as many oppurtunities. We stand hunt and there is only so far you can comfortably shoot with a shotgun.

Side note: My wife sat in my deer stand at our farm and saw more deer on Tuesday night than I had seen in 2 months of bow hunting out of the same stand.
