2016 Great turkey year!

Great Year.... Not so much in line of fired up toms but this was our best year for killing birds, with only being skunked on one hunt and thats because the toms well within range didn't want to be on video.

I'll share a few of the hunts from this year.

First is my daughter. After begging both kids to go knowing that youth season was open I finally got one to go but she said I'll only go twice this year. No pressure. First day out on public no gobbles and seeing nothing. Around 9 with wind howling we decide to move. It wasn't 15 minutes after being set up and we had a player however he skirted us then 10 minutes later here come either the same bird or a different one from opposite direction on a mission. This makes her 4th bird out of 5 years hunting turkeys.

Next is my dads 3rd season bird. Every year 3 of us make a trip south together for a 3 day weekend of turkey hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. I always look forward to this trip. So this year dad was up to bat first. He had just had rotator cuff surgery and recovery has been a real struggle for him. He wasn't sure fireing a gun would be a good idea so I convinced him to use my daughters youth model 20 guage(The gun has yet to miss a turkey). So anyways it was our first evening out of the trip and coming down to the last minutes of LST. We were actually packing up when this guy walked over the hill. I think we were both waiting for him to fly to the roost before he got to the decoys.

Next morning I was up to bat. This turned into a pretty fun hunt. We had 3 toms gobbleing on the roost. The first walked out of the woods and was walking towards us strutting then walked off to the side at 70 yds and gobbled at every call we did(yep the come to me boss tom). After 10 mins of begging the bird to come look at my decoys I notice a tom coming in from other direction. I normally don't get to worked up over turkeys anymore I enjoy filming and watching others shoot more then killing them. However when I saw what was hanging out of this tom I wasn't to concerned about video all the sudden. Out of the 30 some toms I've killed I've never shot a double beard till this morning. My camera dies in this video and in a panic was able to get it going 5-10 seconds later. The funnest part of the hunt is the tom that snobbed us earlier came in when the double beard started beating on the decoy. Its reaction to the shot is crazy.

So that snobby bird strutted in the decoys for a full 2 hours after I shot. I was like a china man with my DSLR. However it got to the point where we were ready to mushroom hunt. We were trying to spook this guy with out bumming him out to bad as my brother was still hunting. We were haveing normal level communication while he was breeding my DSD hen at 18yds. This bird was in a nasty mood and just didn't care! We were waving arms, throwing hats 20ft up in the air, and yelling at this bird and he didn't care. I finally had to get out of the tent to shoe him away. We'll remember him for a long time.

Awesome footage, a double bearder is still on my bucket list! That's pretty crazy how long he hangs out after the shot!

Great vids! You had a great year, too bad you didn't have another tag. Would have been fun watching that one get rolled LOL. Congrats!
