2017-18 Team Deer Contest (Score Thread)

Daver--same property, same last name, technically that counts!! Team #2!!

You make a very good point Hardwood! I like the way you think sir!! :) Judges?? :)

Does it count if I passed that buck up last year at 4 yards...when he was "only" a 4 year old, 170"er? :) Are there any bonus points for that? Or that I deliberately did not get an early season muzzy tag this year because I was pretty sure that I could get him and I wanted either my son or myself to have him around for archery season?

But for real...I first received word via text(s) from my son as I was enroute to Montana that he had hit this buck and the hit at first seemed dubious. (It turns out he was dead a few minutes after the shot.) But for 2-3 hours that day...we did not know that. So we conversed several times via text and phone to come up with the plan to recover him and it was all for naught, as he was dead where he last saw him, etc. But when he called me on the phone later and told me that he was sitting next to that buck and had his hands on him...I just about started to cry...actually, I kind of did. :)

That moment that we shared, even though there was 1000 miles between us at the time, will likely be one of my best hunting memories ever. Although I wished I was there in person...it was also quite special to receive that call and know that all of our plotting and planning, etc, had come together, again, and especially that my son was able to experience the "thrill of victory" and take this fine buck after voluntarily passing several other bucks that would be very fine.

Best of luck to all hunters out there and take time to enjoy what you are doing and appreciate the successes of others...it makes this deer hunting stuff all the more enjoyable!

I shot this guy on 11/3. The woods were on fire that day as he was the 13th buck I saw that day. He scored 156 6/8. Team 3 on a roll. Good luck to everyone that still has tags and congratulations to everyone that has harvest a deer. There are some great bucks on here.

Arm,

Appreciate the kind words. I was playing cat and mouse with him for a couple weeks. This was the deer I was after and have at least 3 years of history with him. I've passed him late season the last two years. Funny part is this is my first bow deer. I've always been a duck guy and to do duck or rut right you can't really do the other right in my opinion. In fact for 7 years I was in Arkansas this time of year prepping for ducks. Recently moved back to the east side of the state and close to my farm so went full tilt on bow this year. I've been very fortunate with a gun and some great deer but, this one will always stand out with the deer and morning it was!

Am I the only one that hasn’t killed a big one?! Man seems like the big ones are really falling this year. Sorry team 7....haven’t seen anything I want to drag out of the timber yet. heading back out tomorrow. Congrats to all who have notched a tag!

Nice pics and good story in the harvest thread. I like the old scratch pad. It has to be from your dad's old shop? How's that bourbon?

Thank you, it was a great hunt. The pad is from the shop, very 1990s. That bourbon is effing unreal, can only get it in KY... a lot like 5 other bottles in my cabinet.
