2018 Canada fishing trip pics

Went back to Geary’s Sportsman’s Lodge out of Red Lake Ontario this past spring again on one of their flyin fishing trips. Last year was amazing and I had doubts we’d ever be able to top the fishing success we had then... but we did! Everyone landed at least one pike over 40” with 46.5 and 45 being the big ones for the week. Multiple walleyes over 24” with 28” being the top. Close encounters with a few black bears, tons of laughs, and ate fresh walleye every day. If you want a very affordable trip to some of the best fishing Canada has to offer, this is it!

The big 46.5” dad caught

5 min after dad caught the above monster I was throwing a jig for walleye from shore and just as I was about to pull the jig out of the water and cast it again this big girl engulfed it and the fight was on. No leader on so I thought a 50/50 shot we land her but we did. Come to find out she had that jig at the back of her throat, that braided line is tough stuff! 45”, my best ever

Russ and Brandon won best fish story of the trip. Brandon hooked this 42” and Russ set his pole down and grabbed the net. He left his line dangling at the top of the water and went to move it in the boat but was a couple seconds too late. This 39”r comes up and grabs his spinner and they both now have fish on. So Brandon held a pole in each hand, fish fighting on each side of the boat and Russ netted them each!

Dad hooked this 41”r from shore as Russ and I were rolling up in a boat to help Brandon get a snag out. Dads fighting the fish as we float in the way and in between the fish and shore. So dad keeps realing him in over our heads and I net him from the boat and let him go for dad, this was our attempt to get a pic of dad holding his fish. Haha. After a while all the big fish start to look the same and you learn to just enjoy the moment and let them go, can’t get a pic of them all

We leave for northern Minn Saturday and sure wish we were heading back north of the border. A fly in trip is on the list of things to do in the near future.

Nice thing about a flyin deal is on this lake you're the only people on the entire lake. Some times the indians get flown in and stay at their little cabins but we've never seen them out fishing. They can catch all they want/need right from shore infront of their cabins. One did stop over a couple times during the week just to chat. That was really interesting and fun to catch up with him. Little different way of life up there!

That would be awesome. Did you guys drive to Red Lake? How much gear is each person allowed on the plane?

Yes, drove to Red Lake. Flew in to Warrington Lake outpost. 300#s per guy, including your own body weight. There's a charge for going over weight. They weigh you before getting on the plane so you can cut weight if you'd like. It isn't too bad to come in at weight really, cases of beer add up fast though so if you wanted to bring a whole bunch you better be a light weight or have some skinny friends. haha

That's awesome! Brings back a lot of memories from the 90's when I used to go deep into Quebec by portaging across 4 lakes and moose trails to a lake called Con that an Indian showed an old friend of mine he met in 1950. It was the only way to it and we had a blast camping on an island and eating walleye everyday.

Looks like an awesome trip!! Whats ballpark per person cost if your able to share?

You bet, 6 people so one vehicle and an enclosed trailer. Just under $1400 per person for everything. 5 full days of fishing. 2 full days of travel. Very reasonable I thought!

Reminds me of the old days. Used to go every year, often all the way up to Red Lake. But the generation up all passed away, and my 3 sons moved away. Enjoy the good times with good friends.

I hear ya, I used to go all the time with my dad and his fishing buddies who were mostly all quite a bit older, not many of them left around anymore. The memories and friendships made are the best. That’s why we hunt and fish!
