My 2018 muzzleloader buck tag didn’t last long in my pocket. Despite the weather, deer have moved like crazy last two days. I saw tons of deer Tuesday and Wednesday. Almost all were heading to a big green plot (Radish/turnip/rye) I have and then feeding off to a neighboring corn field after dark. I would say green is on FIRE at least where I was.

This was a deer I was very familiar with. He was at the very peak of his potential. Based on pics, especially 2017, I feel pretty comfortable saying he was at least 6 this year. He made a good jump, partly because I think 2017 was a terrible growing year across the board.

I saw this dude at 4:40 getting out of his bedroom and meander across some tall CRP. I had seen this deer a few times bow hunting and I am convinced he was allergic to trees. He never walked by them. He finally made it near all the other deer and starting a big loop around my foodplot, presumably to come in downwind. My muzzleloader cut him off in his tracks.

Really grateful for a dream season. I may try to get out with my bow yet, but going to just enjoy family time and doe patrol for a bit. The best of muzzleloader is ahead. Be safe, goodluck, and Merry Christmas.
